I was told by A & L that it is down to the companies to accpet the direct debit instruction. So when they have done this they will appear on your account, but standing orders can be controlled by the banks and dealt with straight away. Remember you shouldn't get any charges on your A & L account until they send you a letter to confirm that the switching process is complete. This includes going over your overdraft limit. Just sit back and relax and I am sure it will all be ok.0

Thanks djuluvme,
I'm trying to relax, just found out I have until next Thursday to transfer payroll for end of month so that gives me a bit of breathing room, the woman on the phone told me the Direct Debits would be rejected and I would be charged because I didn't let them do my salary transfer, I'll ring again and get some confirmation from someone else.

Yes, ring again. I've found recently (with a different company I rang) that one person I spoke to put me in an absolute panic, but when I rang the next day I was told a completely different thing and my prob was sorted. Half the time they give you the wrong info, which is frustrating. They do record calls though so if you are assured that it will be ok (which hopefully you will be when you ring again) then if anything does go wrong you can say 'You told me in such and such a call at this time on this day that....'. Good luck.0 -

You had to have a recent bank statement (printed out is ok, as long as it shows your full name, bank account details and the address or web address of the bank) and it has to show you in credit on at least three separate occasions. It also has to show a deposit of a minimum amount - possibly £500? Can't remember.
You also need to take in a letter from your bank confirming your overdraft limit.
A&L took photocopies of all of my documents and the overdraft was added to my account within a few days.
Did they write to you asking you to go into a branch with your statement etc?
The reason I ask is that I've just (well, a few days ago) read the Welcome Pack and it says send us your bank statement etc in the envelope provided. I have already used that envelope to send off a copy of my signature...and I don't know whether they are asking people who are only just filling out the switching form in the welcome pack, to send their statement in. I don't want to just post my statement off and have it get lost somewhere. So I've been waiting for them to contact me to ask me for my statement so they can match my overdraft. Is that what will happen?0 -
You can fax, post or take your documents into a branch. I phoned up to ask about the options and the customer service advisor gave me a ridiculously long list of instructions, so you may want to phone them in advance to get their advice as it depends on your circumstances.
Just ring them and mention the "Overdraft Matching Service" - they seemed to know what I meant when I said that. Have a pen and paper (or a computer with Notepad open) handy - there's a lot to remember otherwise!0 -

Thanks, yes it's probably best to nip it in the bud rather than wait for them to contact me. What number did you ring?0 -
I can't remember the exact number but it was one of the ones on this page:
http://www.alliance-leicester.co.uk/customer-service/existing-customers/current-accounts.aspx
I'm sure they all re-direct to the same place!
http://www.saynoto0870.com/ might find you a cheaper number.0 -
Can the £500 per month for the premier current account be funded by transfers in from other banks?
I can't find this information anywhere.
Thankyou0 -

I rang 08445619604 and got through straight away - was amazed at that! Couldn't find an alt landline number on Saynoto0870. The fellow scouser I spoke to said to get a matched overdraft your bank statement needs to be from the last three months and show you were in credit for 15 days and show your overdaft limit. Lucky I was during Sept but was overdrawn all of August, and my last bank statement is from Aug and Sept, so hope they only look at the most recent month.0 -
Hi everyone. I applied for this account at the end of september. I only had one dd and one standing order for them to switch which they managed without cocking up. I had to send off my statement to have my overdraft matched, so got my mum to put some of her savings in my account for a few days to bump up my balance and make sure i was in credit for a few days. Bit sneaky but it worked! They matched my halifax od straight away and everything has been ok. I emailed about when i should get the £100 and they said they pay the £100 30 days after you fund the account with the first £500. I done this on the 8th so should recieve it by nov 8th.
