    Hi,
I've just used Priceline.co.uk for the first time (after seeking the advice on MSE) and I've booked a hotel in New York for 7 nights (The New York Helmsley Hotel 3.5 star) for £518 (direct price with hotel is £2118 & average price on other sites is £2000!!!) I've emailed the hotel to confirm my booking but not had a reply as yet! Due to the HUGE saving - I'm dubious if this is the real deal and that I'm not being scammed!!! Would someone please put my mind at ease!!!! :o

Welcome to MSE and to your sucess using Priceline.

So long as you have the booking confirmation from Priceline you are OK:cool:
(Well 99% of the time )

Others have stayed there and it comes up often on PL

I'm sure the hotel will respond shortly.

    When is your stay?

    Yes it's fine ;)

Sounds like a good trip-Make sure you read the Everything and Anything NYC thread and ask Q's there if need be.

Not sure they do flights on the UK site and even on the USA site its a whole different ball game
Stick to Hotels and read my guide so next time you will not be surprised at the low cost that some hotels can be won.
  • I was successful in bidding for a flight to New York on Priceline UK back in 2002 (£169 - those were the days!) but shortly after, things changed and you could no longer bid for flights unless they originated in the USA.

Well done on your winning hotel bid!

  • hi i'm looking to use priceline to bid for a hotel in times square area of new york but im travelling with my husband and 2 year old daughter. ive read blindmans guide where he says i should use hotwire as i am only bidding on a room with priceline and there are no guarantees of getting 2 double beds in a room or a room with a sofa bed. does anybody know if its possible to have a bid on priceline accepted and then could i contact the hotel direct to upgrade the room to what we require?

    Welcome to MSE:D

Yes you can bid and win on PL for a room then contact the hotel to ask for "special" requirements.

But be aware the hotel doen't have to give you anything more than a room suitable for two adults only.
They may give you a cot-if they have one and the room is big enough.
Any extra's could be charged for it really depends on the hotel (which of course you don't know for certain until you win. Good research can narrow it down)

I've never used PL with small children in tow so can't give personal examples. Also I've not been keeping a close eye on PL for a while so can't comment on recent wins for families.

Is your daugher too big to sleep in your bed?
  • thanks for your help, i think our daughter is too big to sleep in the same bed as us to be honest. i don't mind paying the extra to upgrade the room if i can get a good deal on the room to start with. the price difference between a room with 2 beds as opposed to a room with one bed doesn't seem that great to be honest but i wouldn't want to bid and then contact the hotel direct and they won't upgrade the room or the price is bumped up as we've won it on pricleine.
    thanks.
