Normally Asda will accept Sainsburys or Tescos vouchers up to the value of 10% of your bill, but if you get a friendly supervisor he/she will allow you to use any voucher from any high street shop. On this occasion I handed over £60 of vouchers (Boots, Somerfield, Sainsburys, Tesco and general manufacturers vouchers) and the checkout lad called over his supervisor and she said take them all (must be my charming smile!) My advice would be to collect every voucher you find and try your luck, they can only say no...Don't blame me, it was like that when I got here!0 -
When recording in the 4hr and 6hr modes of the DVD recorders, is the quality truly comparable to VHS video recorders recording in short play and long play?
Thanks.0 -
Hi I am very new to the forum and after reading all the comments on the dvd from svp I have ordered one from svp.I dont understand all the high tech comments most of you make so please can you make it a bit simpler in future. What is region free, and when you say it can be hacked please explain how and where do you get the code from.I am a pensioner but willing to learn.many thanks Joe.0

The SVP recorder doesn't play Divx which makes it pretty much pointless for me.No links in signatures please.0

Region free = Region 0 (It will play any DVD from anywhere in the world)
Some buy DVD's from USA, they are region 1 I think whereas here in UK we are region 2 and normally if the player is region locked you could only play that regions disks.
As for the hack just use Google search engine and search for model/number and the words "region hack" in the search and I am sure you could find the code.0 -
Good post George, no sour grapes, but what puzzles me is why your thread got so much publicity, when this one was on the grabbit board, more than 24hrs before. http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=92716
It includes cheaper recorders and one with Divx as cheap.
Must remember that the drop board moves slower.
To all, I would say wait, they will get even cheaper, as the £85 Cyberhome at Asda, is $99(£57) in USA.
Re Asda accepting vouchers THEY NO LONGER DO SO, unless you buy the product. ( Poger_p your Asda supervisor just hasnt got the message yet, lucky you. Where is it ?)Norman-B wrote:Thanks for the reply George. It looks as if I will have to go the PC route. Will I get instructions on how to install the DVD writer and Firewire card? Will I need a cable from my digicam to the PC or is that included with the firewire card?ac's lovechild0 -
I can't see where to click to say thanks for useful posts. I am using Mozilla Firefox; would that make any difference, or am I just blind?0

In the bottom right hand corner of each post there are 3 icons. One shows a thumbs up picture and says "Thanks", one shows a pen and paper and says "Quote" and the other just shows a pen and paper for a quick reply to the message. Can you see any of these? I'm using IE6, I haven't used Mozilla so I don't know if that may be the reason you can't see it.0

I use Mozilla and don't have any problem viewing the 'thanks' button. I sometimes have problems with higher level page functions on other sites, but I don't think MSE pages display any differently than when using IE. If I'm not sure, I simply open IE and copy in the page address I'm viewing with Mozilla and see if it works any better.A penny saved is a penny gained0

I thought the Liteon deck was worth a mention because the Liteon brand of DVD recorders has been well received by members of this forum on previous occasions, including my own experience. Liteon is something of a known quantity, with apparent reliability and high quality. But unlike brands such as Sony or Panasonic, the Liteons are very keenly priced. The models mentioned on the other thread may or may not be as good.
