I,m currently with BT for my line rental and i,m just looking to save a few £,s.

I know primus are the cheapest but i,m reading about too many horror stories about them so i,m not keen to move to them.

Hasn't the Light User Scheme gone, and been replaced by BT Basic (http://www.bt.com/basic), which is limited to certain claimants only?:

You can usually get BT Basic if you're claiming one of these benefits:
    • Income Support
    • Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance
    • Employment Support Allowance (Income related) or
    • Pensions Credit (Guaranteed Credit)

    Quite right too.
I am a long serving customer, and now a long suffering customer.

Primustel originally were a fantastic company. Great prices, great service, well done you Aussies and thanks for that.

Sadly taken over by New Call Telecom Ltd, but still trading on the Primus name, and since then just been driven into the dirt.

It is impossible, and I mean impossible, to get a phone call through to them. I let it ring out for well over an hour one day - nothing!
I have to say, with the old Primus I can't remember even getting 3 rings before pick-up.

Now I find myself with a new problem, but that's a matter for another thread.
I do think it is time Martin considered de-listing this bunch as a favoured telephone service provider. They really are not worthy any more.
The bankers stole my pension (and everyone else's). It should have earned a lot of money, but they took their bonus pot first.

I wish I'd read this before I signed up on the MSE recommendation with "61% Great" customer service.

I called their geographic customer services number from my mobile and gave up after 15 minutes as I don't want to use up all my "free" minutes.

Now calling their 0800 number from a landline, been in the queue for 27 minutes already.

Didn't expect this from Martin Lewis recommended "61% Great" customer service company.

Nice to know my call is important to them, or so the recording keeps telling me.

Apparently if I don't call to confirm my line installation appointment they will cancel it!

66 minutes on hold, I just want to cancel the whole thing now but they've already taken payment from my card. How long is the cooling off period!

Gave up after 1hour and 15 minites, trying again through my WeQ4U android app, which is supposed to queue for you and call you back when/if they answer.
  • They have no customer service.

If something goes wrong, forget it. They just don't answer the phone EVER. They are simply not interested once they've got your money.

Its a con pure and simple. Do not sign up because even when your phone and/or broadband stops working they will keep trying to take the money. They know its hassle to get out of the contract once you've started but thats they're entire business plan - sign people up then dont worry if you dont provide a service.

I've phoned them, emailed them, faxed them - no response ever.

I'm still on a legacy Primus CPS tariff and have had no cause to phone them recently.

However, I did need to claim a £20 'recommend a friend' cashback last year and that was dealt with very efficiently by email (I tried to claim too early and they replied to that effect within a couple of days advising me when to email again. I did and the credit appeared on my account).
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

On my third call yesterday they cut me off after 90 minutes on hold, which would have cost me £27.27 if I had called from my mobile.

I am trying again today, outside their "busy period". Currently on hold for 20m
