    Currently with BT paying

    £14.60 line rental
£16.00 for 10GB broadband download limit with anytime calls package

Thinking of switching to Plusnet. Called BT and they offered to reduce the broadband to

    £13.80 same package
    £8.65 without the anytime calls

Any advice for me? I really need to bring down the cost but can't afford to comprise on service as I rely on broadband for my work.
  • HI,

Hoping someone can help, and I apologise in advance if it has been posted before but I cannot find the info - is there a decent comparison site that allows you to enter your phone/BB usage quite specifically in order to work out a decent deal?

I have a real problem trying to factor all the usage across the phone (mainly) and broadband in my parents house - eg, international calls to family, calls to mobiles(me and brother!), etc

    Thanks,
    Rob
  • Comparison sites will not give you the best deals on the market. Companies pay to be on comparison websites so you will only get the major companies on them, they are not necessarily the cheapest. Look for the smaller companies online.

    Beware of the BT shysters.

If you currently pay monthly for their line rental you can have the "unlimited evening and weekend calls" package for free.

However, if you renew your contract with line rental saver and pay 12 months line rental up front then the unlimited evening and and weekend calls package becomes chargeable at £3.30 per month. Apparently the line rental saver is a promotion offer and you cannot have the package for free with any other promotional offer. They don't tell you this when you sign up on line. I only became aware of this after seeing the first quarterly bill following sign up.

So review your call packages when you sign up to BT line rental saver.
  • Just tried to switch to Primus, however if your current provider is Talktalk or Sky or O2 it takes 2 weeks to switch your phone and 4 week to switch your broadband, including 2 weeks (weeks 3&4) where you will have no Broadband!!
This isn't applicable if you're with BT.

I checked with Tesco and Plusnet and both said a couple of hours max. So switched to tesco with their £30 gift card and 3points per £1

Which even when the price goes up in 12 months is still cheaper than the £30 I was being charged by talktalk, who don't do customer loyalty, just give you 6 months half price on the back of an 18 month contract then put the price up on month 7!

You can (as I do) have the two together - but you need to ask them for it, and (I think) sign up over the phone rather than online.

I think the subject was mentioned earlier in the thread, and possibly by Heinz. :)

Just thought i would warn anyone thinking of going for primus deal. I have been trying to contact them for last 3 days to find out the status of the order. However everytime i have waited upto 20 minutes and havent managed to speak to anyone. i did call outside of their busy times (which they claim are between 9 and 11 in morning and 6 and 8 in evening). So my advise would be, if you want to change to primus, prepared to be patient while trying to contact them.

I am looking for a cheap bundle and thought Talk Talk was it, but looking into their £3.25 "unlimited" package I found that the broadband is actually limited to 40GB upload/download. It's their £7.25 package that is uncapped and truly unlimited. I hope the MSE review be updated so it is not as misleading as the huge Talk Talk billboards all over London!!

Repeating this post as I've just noticed the same thing...

The MSE article is still aiding Talk Talk's dubious advertising of an Unlimited download limit which is actually subject to Talk Talk's own "Broadband Traffic Management" policy which clearly states that "Data caps and download limits: What are the download/upload limits or usage caps on this product? 40GB"

Unlimited Broadband is rarely unlimited, usually subject to fair usage policies or similarly named schemes; read your terms and conditions carefully.

If they change, Primus will carry over all BT add ons - but charge for them.

Primus have only undertaken to allow the use of indirect access providers like 18185 until the end of this year(2012) .

Override providers (the ones with 0843/4 and 0871/2 numbers that you have to dial before dialling your target number) are unaffected of course because they are just phone calls.
And Primus are still allowing customers to use it.

I wouldn't touch Primus with a proverbial bargepole! Previous experience with them has put me off for life. I was really pleased when I managed to switch my BB away from them and certainly would not trust them with my line rental.
