This is the advice i'm looking for....new to all this different providers, the 18185 prefix and i dont want to rush into making a choice to quick.
I have my tv and free calls with sky, tv costing only £23 but last months
bill was £67 and we pay BT line rental.
I always though free eve and weekend call meant the calls cost nothing
and if you stuck to that u would only pay the cost of the TV, but sticking
to the free calls, maybe phoneing a place during office hrs it wold be
cheap but 67 quid i called sky and cancelled the free calls and ended
up here.
The 18185 prefix ? explain in short please........
Time to call Orange and see how long my broadband deal has left and
maybe look for the whole package......but dont want a letter telling
me my downloading is breaking that fair play agreement like orange
sent me 2 years ago.
Its all new to me this but its got me interested i saw a page
last night with connection charges, so free calls mean when u
phone u still pay for the connection then the duration of the calls
free but connection charges apply ? is this correct.
thanks
Mark
Within in some companies this is correct the company who I use at the moment is a Axis Telecom and I've been with them for 9 Months now and they have treated me brilliantly
I get unlimited calls to UK 24/7 (NO CONNECTION CHARGES EITHER) currently getting 6.5mbps lowest download speed and 8mbps most times. I also ring Australia, USA,Canada & New Zealand for 15pence for a full hour I ring each twice a month for about 45mins per call. My daughter rings a mobile (Boyfriend) 2 or 3 times a week as I now let her because they are capped at 50 pence for a Hour which used to be unheard of when i got the package.
Last months Bill came in at £29.70. I just knocked next months bill down by £4.50 too i rang customer service and i asked a lovely lady i would like to pay by direct debit all done over the phone saved £3 p/m and she asked if i would like to change to internet billing as they are trying to be as green as possible and it saved me a further £1.50 he call was well worth my 2 mins i wanted to stay on the phone talking she was so nice to me but obviously they are a busy company.
I'm going to refer my business next month when the contract ends in three months bonus is i get £25 quid off each bill too.
The actual package i am on before my mobile and international calls is £21.77 p/m for BB, all UK calls and Line Rental mobiles 50p per hour and internationals 15pph
Hope this has helped:D:)

Hello, can someone help? I have my line rental with BT and calls thru Sky. I called BT thrice today - once to ask them about a offer I received about their Any Time plan for £15.99 which I did not take because of limited broadband usage, once to ask them why I was charged more than the minimum 11.54 every month (I have been making the mistake of not making two calls a month through them which renders my free calls like 1571 into one pound calls - did anyone know this!!!) and once to ask them to refund the credit in my account which they kindly agreed to.
At the end of my first two calls I told them that their offer is not good enough and I would leave BT and take my line rental to Sky or Primus and they still DID NOT put me to Retentions and DID NOT offer a better deal than their standard £11.54 + £4.99 for Rental + Anytime plan without broadband which comes to £16.53 which is laughable because it is HIGHER than the offer I received by mail of £15.99 for Rental + Anytime + 10 GB broadband.
I read in above posts of a £ 8.54 for Rentals so I was hoping I would get that or at least be offered a 8.54 + 4.99 for Rental + Anytime plan which is £13.53.
So what number should I call for a more sympathetic response from BT. The number I called was the number in the post I got and they certainly didn’t seem very keen to retain me!!! Maybe I should just take my rental to Sky or leave both BT and Sky and go to another provider.
Thanks, G.0 -

I rang BT on 0808 100 2425 and they put me through to retentions when I said I was moving line rental to Primus.
Anyway the upshot is that I am now on their Anytime plan with call waiting, call divert, anon call reject, caller id and the reduced price mobile calls for 18.72 per month with first 3 months of anytime free.
They have given me the £36 credit for line rental up front along with £18 credit for the mobiles bolt on so I'm pretty pleased as I can now get rid of my orchid dialler as well.0 -
Thanks HW, will try this number to see what they can offer.0

My line rentals is with BT and calls with Sky. I called BT on two numbers including above mentioned and I was not put thru to Retentions when I said that their offer was not as good as some others. The response was the same stubborn one almost asking me to leave if I wanted to as that is the best they can offer. I got a little angry as they could not understand the point I was making that their present offer of 11.54 + 4.99 for Rental + Any Time was more than their own mail offer of 15.99 that included broadband that I did not want.
Anyway, the third time I opted for Cancel Service and told the lady concerned that I had a better offer and so was leaving - and lo this time it was different. She asked me if I would stay on if they offered a £8.54 + £3.99 deal (£3 off as credit and £1 off as discount). I was pleasantly surprised and decided to take it rather than haggle for more. Actually I didn't know how to and forgot all about asking for the first three months free offer!
So there you are, I had nearly given up but thanks to MS, I pursued and now my long story comes to an end - from next month I will be on a one year contract with BT rentals and calls paying £12.53 per month.0 -
I'm moving to a new apartment shortly.
The place has phone sockets but I had no way of telling my number.
So I plugged a phone in and dialled 17070. This told me my number.
I tried to sign up to the Primus deal online (to get the discount) but couldn't do this as my line is not "activated". I have a dialling tone but can't make or receive calls.
I called Primus and arranged for it over the phone. I got the £8.99 deal which Martin's guide says you can't get unless you go through HomePhoneChoices.0 -
Hi all
Virgin is our current provider and I am sick of them and want to move.
Called O2 and took out new mobile package to get their great deal, got to the end of the transaction and then they said couldn't help me as I was not a BT customer.
Now got an offer through the post from BT for broadband and unlimited calls 18 month package for £15.99 + line rental for £10.99 and the first three months of £15.99 free. This seems a good offer, and I am then thinking I could move onto O2 or anyone but Virgin once I have a BT line again and 18 months are up. Any advice gratefully received.0 -
Keep away from BT, the only service i got was 5* GRIEF!! No matter how nice I was they didnt want to know, so I told them where to put their customer service.
Is there any REAL alternatives out there??? As it seems every service provider has NO customer service worth dealing with.
My aunt is with Talk Talk and has had no problems what so ever with them, which is a surprise.0 -
Our line rental is with BT and our calls have been with Primus Saver for a long time. We already use PlusNet basic for our broadband.
We would like to change our line rental to the Primus offer, but there seem to be a number of comments which suggest that this is not possible if we use PlusNet for broadband. This surely cannot be the case as MSE would not recommend this option!
Can anybody actually confirm the position please?
If it will be OK, as we are already with Primus for calls, can we still use the Homephonechoices method to change?
Thanks for any help.0 -

I did the same - dial 150 Option 1, 3, 4 - said that I was considering moving to Primus line rental at £8.99 andwould they remind me what I was paying them. Following my audible gasp at their reply, I was immediately offered £36 refund with line rental with free evening, weekend and 0870/0845 calls for £8.54. On asking what's the catch I was told 'no catch'. Deal done, though it does annoy me that they dont just drop their prices anyway.
And I'm guaranteed to be able to use overide providers eg Call181850
