Just had a call from O2 as I'd indicated an interest in home phone some time ago.
The offer is £9.50 for line rental , evenings and weekend calls inclusive (01,02 and 03 numbers + 0845, 0870).
I've opted for the caller display add-on at £1.75 extra.
Anytime calls package is another £3 a month.
My 12 month broadband deal was about to end, so they offered 3 months free (as if I was a new customer).
I've signed up for both, as my broadband has been faultless and fast (mind you Tiscali wasn't hard to beat)......
So £18.75 all in.
Let you know if I have any problems (or how well it went).....stay lucky!

Hi, Just to keep hope for others trying to save with current packages. I too called BT 1 month AFTER my 12 month contract for Free Evenings & Weekends automatically renewed, firstly told them that I hadn't been contacted regarding renewal, stated that I wished to end my free evening package and go to basic and they kindly assured that I would not be charged!
Then proceeded to ask if they could offer a better deal. Was transferred to another dept. and told them about Primus (They had never heard of) but without any hassle said that they could do either £8.54 for same deal, or £12.57 for Anytime package, both including Line Rental and neither tied in to any contract...
Needless to say I stayed with BT, as much as my better judgement objected.
It's worth a 10 minute phone call...
Good Luck!
I was offered similar but on a 12 month contract. Still, can't complain at £8.54 per month.0 -
WOW so much to choose from!
I've purchased my first house and am moving in next week. So browsing the forum on the best phone, electricity and gas bills! Tiring and confusing stuff!!
First of all, whats this 18185 all about?
Im currently with o2 for my mobile account, am a pay monthly customer and think ill go with their bb deal becuase from what I've read, their LLU service is great. So would it be best for me to sign upto their home phone deal too?
Im either thinking BT or o2 anyway! Just as im a rookie in arranging/paying utility bills im a bit worried if I make a schoolboy error, so any help would be much appreciated kind!0 -
www.18185.co.uk www.call1899.co.uk and www.18866.co.uk are indirect access providers (in fact they're all the same company but their call rates differ). If you have an account with any of them and pay line rental to a company which allows access (only BT must do so but Sky, for example, will shortly bar such access), you can use their 4 or 5 digit prefix to make cheap calls.
Just one example to keep it brief. If you had a BT line and their lowest calls package (the Unlimited Weekend Plan), you would pay 9.9p connection + 5.9p/minute for a weekday call to an 01, 02 or 03 number (a just under 10 minute call would cost 68.9p). Using the 18185 prefix, that 68.9p call would cost 5p.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Thanks Heinz, reading through this page, it seems some bt customers have been offered the 8.74 line rental. Is there any chance they would offer the same line rental fee to a new customer that like me? Im moving in next week and just looking for the best possible deal I can get.0

Im looking for a new provider for my mum and dad after the terrible service from Talk Talk recently they want to move.
Is BT the best option of £4.99 with unlimited calls the best + £11.54 line rental, they dont want to use prefixes or anything.0 -
