  • A bit of advice please:

Currently paying £19.00 per month line rental ( with a few extras ) on a BT Line rental and £12.99 with AOL for broadband with free 24/7 landline and national calls, totalling £20.00 per month with calls including to mobiles at 12p day and 7p night. Total monthly bill is about £40.00 per month.
AOL are offering £26.24 per month for line rental and calls as above.

Question 1 Are there any downsides to having line rental off AOL ?
Question 2 Is there a better deal available ?

There is no cable available and I can only get 4mb on my broadband where I live.

    Replys welcome

    BT's charges for line rental and inclusive calls to 01, 02, 03, 0845 and 0870 numbers are £11.54 + £4.99 (£16.53) - which makes AOL's offer of £26.24 seem very expensive.

In any case, I doubt AOL will include calls to mobiles in their package.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

I have several friends who USED to be with AOL !! I do not know anyone who is happy with them. Take a look at the deal shown on here with BT, then phone o2 (08002300202) and tell them you are looking for a deal. I have found them first class.

I know this is a bit late,
but have just got off the phoe with talktalk. I'm an existing out of contract broadband/phone customer.

Phoned up threatened to leave if they didn't give me the same deal that was offered online (12mths free). They put me through to retentions and will migrate me to the online deal with the free 12mths, waive the connection fee as I'm already connected.

I also asked if they would give me the cashback I would have got if I'd have cancelled and reapplied via topcashback. The call centre person said they couldn't apply the £30 as a discount, but she could manually apply a £5 discount off the bill for the next 6 months, which is the same, but I know I'll get it were cashback I might not.

Bottom line, If your already with TalkTalk and out of contract and you want their current deal, phone up and ask for it (and anything else) seems to work.

I have just had a call from Talk Talk and I'm in a quandry???? I am currently with BT and pay £45.00 per month for Line Rental all free calls to usual numbers day & night and broadband.

The chap on the phone gave me details of this deal:

Same as BT all free calls to ususal numbers day & night £15.98pm
    Broadband £6.99pm = total of £21.90pm I think !!

So in the grand scheme of it I am saving over half what I pay BT which to me at the moment is fantastic news, BUT I am a bit dubious........ can't shake the feeling I'm being done over if you know what I mean, hidden extras etc they say NOT but everyone tells you that for a sale!! as it is alot off what i'm currently paying, been with BT for years so is it me being with them for years and not changed that i'm a bit reluctant?? I do have from 14 days of the paperwork arriving here to change my mind.

Can anyone put my mind at rest or is it just too good to be true lol :-) many thanks xx

It says Talk Talk is not available so the broadband etc will be £33.38 in total + £4 for the anytime calls

As you're currently in an area which isn't on the main TalkTalk network your Essentials will cost £33.48 per month. That's still great value for the UK's most flexible phone and broadband.
    Your Essentials Package £33.48
    Broadband and phone £6.99
    Chargeable Capacity £15.00
    Line rental £11.49
