That means your incoming calls arrive on BT but your outgoing calls go via AOL by default. Hence, your Caller Display is supplied by BT and, as you cannot make any calls via BT because of the way AOL supplies your calls package, you will have to pay BT £2.59/month for Caller Display. If you don't have Caller Display, you escape that charge.

OTOH, £6.99 for inclusive 01/02/03 calls and broadband is very good value.

Remember, you can still have an account with www.18185.co.uk and then use the 18185 prefix to reduce the cost of your calls to mobiles and international calls.

  • Does the recent BT price hike consitute an opportunity to request a release from a contract penalty free?

If so, how does this work with relation to bundled services, such as BT Vision that can only be ordered with a landline?

At the moment, my landline's with BT and my broadband's with O2.

If I were to switch my landline away from BT to someone else, would it affect my broadband in any way?

    Thanks!
  • Now that BT have raised there prices from October, am I entitled to leave them without charge? They restarted my contract sneekily in january as they sent a letter saying your contract is ending we will automatically renew it if you do not reply to this letter within short time (10 days i think). when I was filling this letter I called and asked what this was abouyt and they said I had accepted to go on for 12 months so getting out would cost me 11months something days. was not happy, still not and I want out.
  • Ive just moved into a house which seems to still have talktalk connected (the woman died so didn't have any services cut off), Ive found a talktalk bill anyway. I'd rather go with BT or primussaver/plusnet but they both wanted huge connection charges as they said there's not a proper line at the house. BT wanted £127 connection fee!

Is there any way to get around it and how do I find out if the number originated from BT and I can use the return to donor scheme?

    Thanks for your help!

The line is probably on Talk Talk's equipment at the exchange but BT should be able to reconnect you to the BT network free of charge. That will involve agreeing to a 12 month contract but nothing else.

Call 0800 800 150 and ask for a 'return to donor' connection.

You may have trouble getting someone who knows about it but, if you do, ask to be transferred to the Customer Options Team. They normally know about such things.

You have to have a BT line (i.e. pay line rental to them) in order to have a CPS calls provider like AOL.

  • Thank you heinz! I rang again this morning but the line has been disconnected so they couldn't do the return to donor. Gave up and rang talk talk who then wanted £70 to reconnect to them as they'd have to install a new line! She reduced it to £40 after a while but this still seems a lot as surely they're just flipping a switch??
