Have you read any of the recent posts in this forum? If they do not fit what you want would you add details?
  • I have read alot...possibly too much

now with a head buzzing full of nonsense I just need to make sense of it

looking simply for home phone to be in working order as cheaply as possible
  • We'd also like to make you aware of some changes to our prices, terms and conditions, effective from 1st April 2010.

These include changing what we define as the evening call period for all types of calls: at the moment from 6pm-6am, but changing to 7pm-7am.

From 1st April 2010, the call set-up fee for non-inclusive calls from landlines and for non-inclusive Broadband Talk calls will increase from 9.3p to 9.9p per call.

rom 1st April 2010, the cost of UK landline calls made during the daytime will increase from 5.4 pence per minute to 5.9 pence per minute.

The changes to the evening call period, set-up fee and daytime UK landline call price do not affect inclusive calls of up to an hour made with the Unlimited Anytime Plan.

So much for low inflation and don't be caught out by the new definion of evening.

The sneaky swines. I can see the other half racking up a huge bill in no time. She's always on the phone after 6. I could ask her to hold on till 7 before she gets on the blower, but knowing my misses there's more chance of Wayne Bridge asking John Terry to be his best man at his wedding.

We are are about 6 months in to a 12 month contract with BT. Needless to say if we had any inkling that they would be changing the evening times we never would have signed up for a year.

Have BT broken the contract by doing this. I suspect the answer is no, the big boys can get away with anything it seems.

I am hoping the least customers who are not happy with this change in conditions have the option of ending their agreement and are free to shop elsewhere.

Does anybody have any thoughts on this or know if BT are allowing customers to do this?

    Cheers.

If your contract with BT is for the line rental (with which, of course, you get their Unlimited Weekend Plan thrown in), there's nothing to stop you using www.18185.co.uk or, for that matter, opting for a CPS calls provider.

Primus Saver CPS would give you free 01/02/03 calls between 6pm and 8am Monday to Friday and aty Weekends for no monthly charge.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Not yet - but don't hold your breath.

Yes, I've managed to terminate a 12 month rolling contract mid-way through. More details in this thread: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=2161401&page=7 but in essence, you need to do this quickly.
    1. email BT to state that "The change in terms from April 1st will materially disadvantage me as I will have to pay for calls between 6pm and 7pm where I currently do not. As per clause 48 of your terms and conditions here: http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/consumerProducts/dynamicmodules/pagecontentfooter/pageContentFooterPopup.jsp?pagecontentfooter_popupid=13408, I would like to terminate this contract without charge."
    2. Wait until they call you back, or if you do call them, tell them you want to cancel your service and ask specifically to be put thrrough to the customer options department.
    3. repeat the text from your email, stating clause 48 in their terms and conditions :
"If we have made a change which is to your material disadvantage, you will not have to pay a charge if you decide to end your agreement early, unless the Tariff Guide says otherwise. However, once we have told you about such a change, you must let us know that you want to end the agreement within 10 days."

Until O2 come on board with their landline offer it looks like I will have to pay for evening calls for the next month. I was going to sign up for Primus Saver but it is a 12 month contract - so that doesn't look much good. Is there anything similar which doesn't have such a long tie in period?

EDIT : I already have 18185 setup - so at worst it is 5p a call at the moment.
