my MIL is in the process of switching from BT to talk talk..... telephone line and call package only.
is it normal for the telephone number to be kept the same, ie the number she has with BT would be transferred over to talk talksmile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to....

Have been with Tiscali for 5 weeks and so far they have given me 2 phone no.s 2 account no.s 2 direct debits !!Have tried in vain to cancel the incorrect line and account. When I cancelled the direct debit for the wrong account they cancelled broadband on the correct account. Then after numerous calls,5,I was told I would have to wait 15 days to be reinstated with the broadband.I have told them to get lost, and am now trying to get a BT broadband.Fingers crossed. mpw1954,0

You should however be able to use their 0808/020 access codes but the rates are different.See: http://www.18185.co.uk/mobilerates.php
On a similar theme - does anyone know if with orange broadband Home starter, which takes over home phone calls also but leaves the line rental with BT, whether I'll still be able to use the 18185 over-ride??0 -

If your line rental remains with BT and you just CPS your calls to Orange you should still be able to use the Indirect Access Code 18185. You may find though you might not be able to use 1280 to put some calls via BT.0 -

I was just looking at the Orange broadband home starter which is meant to be free for orange customers but you need an existing BT line to join. It says that they charge you £10.50 for the line rental only i.e you end up paying them for the phone line as opposed to BT. I too use an overide provider 1899 as i find this really cost effective for daytime calls ( eve and w/e calls are free with this deal) ans wouldn't want to lose that option. Will the overide provider still work if i pay Orange for my line rental instead of BT? Any help appreciated - will have to sign up for my new orange mobile quick as the cashback deal ends tomorrow!0 -
Can anyone advise please - I`m tearing my hair out! My current phone and Broadband contract with BT finishes on 2 Dec and I want to pursue a cheaper option. I currently pay 10.50 line rental plus Broadband option 3 for 63.80 a quarter. This was originally set up by my son but he has now gone off to Uni and I only use the internet for work emails, surfing and shopping etc (ie I don`t download music or films or anything).
I was all set to follow the website advice about signing up to TalkTalk before Thurs 20th to get a large cashback and cheap deal - but now I have read all the criticism of their service and the suggestion seems to be that I stay with BT - would I be best just to get a cheaper package from them or can anyone suggest who I should swap to?? I don`t make that many phone calls and the majority of my call charges are for calls to mobiles. Please help if you can - said son who set the package up in the first place now says he can`t be bothered to help me work out how to undo it all!!
many thanks in anticipation.........0 -
Welcome to the MSE forums shumrb.
That broadband cost of before VAT - the actual cost is £24.99/month.
So, your current monthly cost is £24.99 + £10.50 = £35.49
If you simply downgraded your broadband to BT Total Broadband Option 1 - they may offer you a good deal to sign up for 12 months - your new monthly maximum cost would be £15.99 + £10.50 = £26.49
With regard to your calls to mobiles, you will see from the HERE link in my signature below that I recommend Penny Mobile 2 CPS (which gives me calls to any UK mobile for a flat rate of 20p for up to 20 minutes). However, I hear that may no longer be available so, the next best option is to to sign up for a 18185.co.uk account to get calls to UK mobiles for 5p connection + 6p/minute weekdays (5p/minute weekends).Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -

A chap from Talk Talk came to my house a few days ago and made me an offer that I had difficultly in refusing.
I currently pay 31.50 to Pipex Homecall for free national/local calls 24/7 + 8MB unlimited Broadband.
He offered me free national/local calls 24/7 + 8MB (40MB max downloads) Broadband for £14.99 for first 3 months and then £15.99 thereafter.
He told me I have 2 weeks cooling off period and can recommend any neighbours who can get the same deal.
Initially, I get the phone deal and as a bonus they will give me the internet free but I have to pay £30 for internet setup fee.:D
My father died and this company - after seeing the death certificate - has sent me two letters basically saying the line 'you will be discontected sunshine' to him.
.
Er... the line has already has been disconnected and if I get a third letter I'm reporting them to Oftel.
They may be cheaper but there filing system is rubbish and if anthing goes slightly awry - you'll get rather unpleasant harassment letters.
I'm with the basic old Post Office - and you can always get to speak to someone and they are reasonably priced.0
