Rejected for a phone4u/O2 contract!?!
I cant believe we both have been rejected for a phone4u/O2 contract!
My partner applied and was rejected - we got her Experian credit history and there is no problems (only 2 £5 payments missed on 8 cards in last 18 months, zero balances, £20k of possible credit, joint mortgage, good postcode).
So i applied, similar experian record except i have missed no payments at all - and i have been rejected too!!!!
phones 4u email says - "We regret to inform you that your contract order has unfortunately been unsuccessful. This could be for a variety of reasons such as:
>
> 1) You are under the age of 18 (the legal age for taking out a contract phone)
> 2) You have not been a UK resident for 3 years
> 3) You do not have sufficient credit history
> 4) There is an issue as to your credit rating
>
> Unfortunately, for reasons of confidentiality we are unable to confirm the exact reasons for your order being unsuccessful."
We are def over 18 and filled current/last (back to 2002) addresses - so we both have credit searches on our file and the missus still has no phone! Any ideas how to follow this up via letter and to who?

You have no rights to become a customer of theirs. If you failed under point 3, there's not a lot you can do, except go back and try again when your history is a bit longer.0

they only ask for 3 years, i supplied 6 years. Or if you meant credit history, i am 37 and have "credit history" for over 16 years!!
I just dont get it.....0 -
I have known P4U rejecting applications in the past by saying that the network has declined your application especially on good offers. I would try another network and see how you get on. If you've had a pay monthly from a particular network before then getting another one should be easy.:beer:0

Thats a no go too - I applied for O2 and i already have a o2 phone for 2 years, never missed a payment!! The missus applied for vodaphone (can see it on her experian report as we got the freebie after she applied).
Missus credit overview:
You have £xx,059 of available credit (excluding mortgages)
You have £x91 of outstanding debt (excluding mortgages and defaults)
You are using 2% of your available credit
You have 25 credit accounts (including settled accounts)
You have 0 accounts overdue
You have missed 2 repayments in the last year
Your credit report has been viewed 3 times in the last 3 months and 4 times in total over the last year
You have 0 public information records
You have 10 aliases and/or financial associations
You have been at your current address for 1 years 10 months
You are on the electoral roll at your current address
You have 0 notice of correction on your credit report
The only thing is (and she has as a financial associate.) i have a "CIFAS - Uk fraud prevention service" record due to attempted fraud on my name

hmm, that got me thinking....
http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/general-consumer-issues/8996-does-cifas-data-affect.html
Which has led me to this - https://www.econsumer.equifax.co.uk/consumer/uk/sitepage.ehtml?forward=gb_cps_cifas .
So looks like a couple of letters are on the cards...0 -

I agree, it's absolutely bewildering. I'm 19, have only ever held down a part time job, had about 30 bob in my bank account with no history of a steady income and yet have been issued with 3 mobile contracts, all with seperate networks without as much as a raised eyebrow.
After I passed my first "credit check", I assumed it was all balderdash.0 -
i rang P4U and they cant do a manual credit check on O2 atm as its new and not setup yet - so they manually put thru an app with vodafone and it went thru fine.
Probably going to cost me my £60 quidco grrrr....0 -
As Quentin said, you have no right to be their customer. I previously applied for a phone with them and got rejected. Tried again a few months later and got accepted. I have a spotless credit record over a very long period of time.
Really, how they interpret what the credit agencies tell them is entirely up to them. You have no input into it.The thanks button is here to the right. If you find a post saves you money, gives you useful information, or you agree with it, take a second to thank the poster!

How long have you been at your current address? My wife was knocked back for an O2 contract, similarly clean credit record, because she'd only been living at our new address for 2-3 months.0

My wife had the same problem - it turned out to be a late payment over 3 years ago, two houses ago. We solved it by putting some of the household bills in her name to accelerate the process.0
