Why has this become personal ihatecex?

I think you may want to reread your posts and see what you have written..

a little perspective and rational thought would not go a miss.

you may have had bad experianes but that doesnt mean anyone who likes
them is wrong.

lets all get along:beer:

I quite like CEX, yes sometimes they are more expensive than game or gamestation depending on what offers are on, but most of the time they are cheaper. I have traded stuff in, mainly games, bought games and also felt happy with what I got.

I have used the northampton branch but now there is one in Bedford I use that all the time.

I once brough a load of games in - got them to calulate my trade in, then I had a look around. I did the same at game and gamestation on the same morning and CEX was the better option with more choice - at least thay have a decent selection in and the trade in was pretty good on some of the older games which surprised me. I didn't find the games I wanted were more expensive than game or gamestation and ones I wanted were only cheap at gamestation if I took the 3 or 4 for £xx offer which didn't neccessary let me get the games I wanted.

OK yes I have had to queue and yes I have seen them deal with undesirables but unfortunately thats just retail.

I would be very disappointed to see CEX go as the staff and store in Bedford are very good, freindly and also offered to print out a list of xbox compatible games with the xbox360 for me which is pages and pages long so I could check before purchasing anything not compatible. I didn't even think of this but the lad offered it to me.

CEX gives game and gamestation a bit of healthy competition and I have heard rumours that game are buying gamestation so thats a bit of a monopoly on main game shops which is worrying as they are not particularly cheap anyway (game that is).

Unfortunately GAME bought Gamestation last year

I went on a excursion to the Edinburgh branch today and enjoyed my visit . A lot of people coming to sell stuff for cash though weren't happy as staff were only allowed to offer credit exchange . Didn't like it though when these people bad mouthed the staff when it wasn't their fault.

• I've been a reader of moneysavingexpert for a few years now so I got quite a surprise when I read this thread! :money:This is the first time I have felt it neccessary to post here.

I am the Store Manager of the Leeds branch of Cex. I'm happy to see some positive comments on this thread about my own store, thank you! Me and my team are always working hard to make the store as nice and possible and the atmosphere as exciting and upbeat as possible. (keeping the shred-metal to a minimum)

To clarify, we have one queue, but "queue-jump" people who are buying from us, all day, every day. As well as aiming to keep some staff to answer questions on the shop floor (no-one should have to queue to ask a question..)

it's sad to see some people disappointed on here, the insolvency rumour is exactly that, a rumour.

Some people are a little confused about the pricing scale, you can find a rationale here

http://www.cex.co.uk/about/concept.php

basically our prices change daily and it's based on supply and demand, if you can get something cheaper elsewhere, *tell us* We pass all that data to our pricing team to remain as competitive as possible. Also, bear in mind our pricing system is transparent, you can get any of our prices from www.cex.co.uk and if something is expensive to buy FROM us then you can be assured that you too will enjoy an elevated price if you sell TO us.

If anyone has any issues with the leeds store simply email wecare@webuy.com with FAO LEEDS STORE MANAGER and it will wing it's way to me. I usually deal with these personally.

For the people who are struggling to ring us, this is because a few weeks ago we decommissioned our telephone line to replace it with a push email service (wecare@webuy.com) Too many calls were going unanswered and we responded to customer feedback (some of which came from this website!)

I will not address any posters directly but there are some quite unsubstantiated and thoughtless remarks on here which I find quite surprising.

Cex use checkmend (amongst other things) to prevent us buying in stolen goods, as well as that, Full I.D. is used to sign up to the store to help the police secure convictions. (and we *have* secured a few convictions at leeds, not many, but the system works.)

People can buy in confidence with the 12 month warranty, your statutory rights are not affected. (obviously)

Although I have quoted verbatim some of our company policy there. My comments are my own and reflect the way I run my store and my own outlook on Company policy and our business. I don't usually get involved in online debates due to excessive trolling on a lot of sites. It felt worth sticking my neck out this time.

This post is for our loyal customers at Leeds who I know will enjoy coming back to receive cash and exchange for thier goods as well as enjoying good value games, dvd's and consoles and quality second hand electronics and computing. We will still be open tomorrow, next week, next month and next year. Buying, Selling and Exchanging.
I look forward to seeing you then.

I have used CEX a few times to buy cheap PS3 games like Motorstorm for £10 and resistance £12 a few months back as most discs are in very good condition. I recently sold 6 copies of Guilty Gear on the wii to them as I got them for £4.99 each and got £8 store credit for each game which let me get uncharted and battlefield bad company on the PS3 and pay £10.

Have to say the prices for newly released games is bad considering you could walk into GAME for example and pick up the game for the same price or less and it would be brand new as some stock in my local shop is tat and wrecked

Have to say the heavy metal music is aweful in the shop and makes me want to walk out and an airfreshner would be useful in their as well as it hums sometimes

I can't help but notice that a lot of people here are slating CeX...focus being on (or related to) the staff.

I'm staff at a branch of CeX...

Don't get me wrong, I don't adore CeX...it's just part time work while I'm at uni. However, most of the stuff I'm reading about here is pretty much a CeX staff slagging match. My response is true of the store I work at...if others are run differently then the problem lies with that store, not the whole of CeX...not all the staff of CeX!

We do not condone the buying and selling of stolen goods. All our phones are checked online before we buy them in. We keep a record of all serial and imei numbers, so it isn't easy to get away with it. If there is a note on someone's account to not buy things from them, due to the suspicion of theft. We DON'T...until we have seen proof of purchase. On our high valued products, we IMEI check before sales also, to ensure we don't sell a stolen product. If we are sold a stolen product, we can easily trace who sold it when. We require ID to sell electronics to us, so we have proof they are who they say they are.

All our electronics are TESTED before we buy them. They work. If a customer buys a product from us and it fails, we do our best to sort it out. The refund policy is readily available AND by far exceeds the refund policy of ANY other 2nd hand store I've ever seen.

If a customer buys a product, and it stops working later...we either repair or replace it (unless it's withing the cash back period...where you are entitled to get your payment back). If we don't replace it...it's down to the customer abusing it. Either by opening the covering (voids the warranty of a new item too), smashing it in (normal wear and tear isn't a warranty voider, however when the are massive dints, cracks or chunks missing, you broke it!), or water damage. All of these are what you'd expect from any retailer. A warranty is not accidental damage insurance. So long as you haven't abused it, you get a replacement, pending a warranty test. Which we take SERIOUSLY. At our store we test very thouroughly for every problem the customer describes.

We do not buy electronics from under-18's! That'd be illegal. If an under-18 wants to trade in a game they have played for a game they want to play, it's legal...and i think it's pretty good. Better than them having to shell out full price for a game they do want, and still be stuck with one they don't want. We don't give cash to under - 18's, and we strictly follow BBFC ratings. It's the law...so we have to, and we do.

Another note on our electronics...

I'm a tester myself...so i know what our stock is like.
1) It all works fine
2) It's in good enough condition...grade C will have scratches...that's why it's cheaper!
3) We know what condition it's in on purchase...we check it's not been flooded, we check it's not been stolen, we check it functions 100%. If ONE BUTTON is a little unresponsive IT FAILS!
4) If any mechanical parts are showing signs of wear (eg a PS2 disc tray struggling to open) we FAIL IT! Why? Because we want our stock to not live up to it's 12-Month warranty...but hopefully OUTLIVE IT!

It's hard to keep up a 12-Month warranty on used goods these days, as manufacturers are making their stuff crappier and crappier...so they break sooner...so you buy again sooner! That's it...and there's nothing we can do to predict how long a product will last. So long as you treat it as it's intended to be treat, we live up to our warranty.

Our music is chosen by the staff. We spend all day in the store...the customer spends a few minutes. Why the hell should we personalise our playlist to make a specific customer happy? You don't have to listen to it...I dislike the music i hear in most clothes shops...but i don't whine about it. I'm there by choice. If it bothered me that much I'd either leave of ask them to play somthing different. On many occasions I have personally played a song as requested by a customer. If the music gets too loud (let's face it, we hear it all day...we don't always notice if the volume creeps up), and a customer mentions it, we'll turn it down. There's no use standing there saying and doing nothing about something, then whining about us not doing anything about it on a forum. I'm sorry if I offend anyone here...but if you just tell us the musics to loud (politeley), we'll do something about it.
trip_hazard:
NEVER buy any expensive gadgets or phones from us, they will inevitable break/not be working properly, and if they do, you might be on a mission to get a refund.
If that's how you're store operates, I'm pretty damn disgusted tbh. we certainly aint like that. And that's down to you're store, not the whole of CeX.

ihatecex:
No need to quote, i refer to the lot!

You are full of rubbish...a lot of the stuff you say is either mis-truths or exaggeration.

You are right about our customer services number...but if you care to get the facts, you will find that CeX have move over to a web-based customer services system;

wecare@webuy.com

I'm sure you'll get some help from them, of course there is the option of going to a store and speaking to the staff about it!

It is people like you who mouth of at staff about pretty much nothing...

RE the pay situation...It has NOTHING to do with the public what happens to our wages...and if you're staff, i'm pretty sure you will have been paid by now. If not then you will be, and any fees caused by it will be covered also. If you aren't staff then what has it to do with you?

byee!
(omg that took a while!)

So,what about the people who don't have a driving licence or a passport? Are any of the staff going to be brave enough to answer my question yet?
Can't believe you said why should you chose music to keep the customer happy.
