This is true, as Cex couldn't pay staff since 21/07 and claim the bank fault, when they are paying staff on overdraft with the bank. Staffs get paid into their accounts and got withdraw back out in the same day as the bank declined the unauthorised overdraft with CEX. Since now, Staff still not got paid yet.
Cex is only good place for thiefs to come in and sell stuff for quick cash, so mostly stuff are stolen and overpriced and most people come in to get rids of their rubbish rather than buying second hand items at nearly brand new price. Therefore stocks are there but no cash is generated.
About the cheque payment is stopped without customer consent, that is illegal activity, where I believe you can contact Trading Standard and I am sure CEX will give you some compensation for this, as you are not the first one who has bounced cheques. If you prefer to contact CEX, you will be placed on hold forever just to speak to the customer service and wait forever again for a new cheque to be issued, if you can get through to customer service..lol.
CEX is not a franchise, CEX LTD has 52 stores across UK, own and run by the head office in Watford. and only about 4 franchise stores.0 -

Why do you hate Cex?
If you are a member of staff knowingly buying stolen goods, that's illegal activity.0 -
So why do I have to love CEX ?Why do you hate Cex?

Yeah, you are totally right, but staff was trained to buy in goods, second hand goods. And CEX knows the goods are stolen, proven by notes on each customer account they suspected, and still buy in and sell it on at double the price. For their own profits and BONUSES. That is illegal under Handling Stolen Goods. But staff is staff, manager thinks is a god..hahaha..0 -
Can I just confirm, as an actual staff member, regarding the stolen phones rumours.
We can never be sure if an item is stolen, and if it is, we cannot falsly accuse customers without evidence, we will not buy in anything that flags up on an imei search as being stolen, infact we will keep it in our posession, delaying the customer while the police come to the store to apprehend them for questioning.
When we buy something in we take full I.D e.g passport/driving lisence, if the item is later reported stolen we then pass the details of whoever sold it onto the police.
If we just turned them away, they would sell it to someone else, and be untraceable, surely it is better this way?
Also a regular sales assistant has no right to turn items away, head office want everything bought in, if you go against your bosses , you can be fired...
I hope this clears up our reputation a little.
no I am not from head office, and I have noe been paid either, I just don't want a reputation as "dodgy" and someone who advocates the buying and selling of stolen goods!
Do not blame the store staff for cash shortages, returning issues, bounced cheques, it is out of our control.
Saving for a year in Japan.
I need around £10,000. Help me get there! :cool:0 -
To the OP.
Cex used to be good, but is now a very poor experience.
Under-staffed, long queues of dodgy looking people with bags of phones, terrible 'metal' music blaring out so hat custoemrs can't here staff commenting on how all the stock is dodgy, etc.
If they are in administration, then good. They charge more for a second hand item than you can buy new !?!?! - case in hand, Grand Theft Auto IV, last week selling for £45 second hand (when you can buy online new for £35). The cash they give for goods may be £1-£2 more than you get at Gamestation or ebay BUT as they charge £5-£6 more for their stock than anywhere else then your extra gain is swallowed straight away.
Stick with gamestation, blockbuster or your local indy retailer.Anger ruins joy, it steals the goodness of my mind. Forces me to say terrible things. Overcoming anger brings peace of mind, a mind without regret. If I overcome anger, I will be delightful and loved by everyone.0 -
I'm really sorry to hear all this.
I have been using local Cex store for a couple of years.
They always treat me well. I had my phone (N95) stolen recently, and as had only had it on contract for 2-3months, I couldn't afford to buy it brand new. I got one in store and it crashed after month. When I took it back the staff were friendly and helpful. As I had only had the new phone for just over a month, they offered me a reset of phone (apparently a common issue with the phone) or a replacement, a full refund in cash (I had bought as trade-in), or store credit.
I took a replacement down graded phone, and store voucher. Which I actually used on Thurs to buy 2 Ipod shuffles!
As a company, they may be having problems but there staff have always offered me great service.
I would like to point out I don't (and never have) worked for the company or know anyone that does!! :rotfl:
Good luck to those of you having problems I hope you all get paid.ITV Winners Club Member (106)
