"Games of course we get scallys and thiefs they to sell us stolern goods, we block as much of it as we can, but who here has brought something 2nd hand on Ebay, Prove to me is 100% legit?
Most crims are very smart and sell on-line, (see https://www.cex.co.uk) its a common stereo type the thiefs: its the chavs on the street for example. (see in store)"
I think that pretty much sums up CEX and everything they stand for, is it just me who feels they are going to get mugged every time they walk in?
If this is the standard of the top brass it's no wonder you're all getting such shoddy customer service.
Try Gamestation, Game, Ninja Games, any smaller stores or online (not cex.co.uk)

As far as I.D. goes Hollydays I will answer your question with some certainty.
You have to ask yourself the question (why take I.D.?) The reason is of course in the event of a civil or criminal incident we will be able to follow up with policing. So what will enable this to happen?
We accept Mainly Driving licence or Passport since these are the easiest for the police to work with. Failing that (not everyone will have access to these) we will use A bank/credit card (which the police can definately use) or a utility bill which is dated in the last 6 months, (council tax/bank statement/water/electric/BT etc)
many of the branches are members of local crime prevention initiatives (I myself am a member of BACIL (N.B google is a bit rubbish actually, heres the link http://www.westyorkshire.police.uk/section-item.asp?sid=12&iid=4078 ) and work closely with west yorkshire police to reduce crime in the area)
I am certain that after taking this I.D. if there were any problems then within say.. a week you could have a police knocking on your door.
There is always the threat of identity fraud, but then this is a universal threat which can be aimed at all banks and industries."
So from a first post from a member of Staff Marisa saying they ask for a d/licence or passport,we have NOW established that cex will take a utility bill.
In the real world (not the shiny world of the Cex customer service manual) what will actually happens is this:
The "customer " borows a utility bill of a friend. In the (unlikely) event of the police coming knocking on their door, they say that someone must have taken it out of their bin.
These type of companies have the evidence right in front of their eyes, (the type of customers that has aleady been mentioned),yet they think they can blithely say "we took i/d ,we have done all we can." Instead of using common sense, they abide by their very poor procedures,( because they are making a whole shed load of money out of it),and keep on repeating "we carry out thorough checks on mobile phones" ,while we know it's other stuff that is sold that is just as problematic.
For you to say "In the course of a civil or criminal incident we would be able to follow up with policing",sounds like a quote from a Politician (or the manual again).
I would have liked to have heard you say you take i/d to discourage people bringing you stolen stuff (burglaries,/ shops).
When you have someone standing in front of you who is off their head, yet bringing you an item of electrical goods for the 5th or 6th time with a range of feeble excuses where they got it,you give the excuse "we can't be doing anything wrong, because we took i/d.How could we know it wasn't legitimate?" You know it's not,by the evidence of your eyes and ears, yet your company doesn't give it's staff the ability to use their own discretion, according to other staff members. You have to abide by the Company rules and sell it.Shops like these are perpetuating crime by their laxness.0 -
I'd hazzard a guess its nothing to do with honest replies but more to do with you registering as a representative of Cex without permission from MSE?
