Well I got brave today and gingerly tipped one of my pots onto some plastic sheeting so that I could just get out what was need for a meal and let the rest carry on growing (I hope). I'd tried firkling around and chouldn't feel anything  .

578g + *416g of best Nicola new potatoes have been retrieved :D :j
I'm chuffed to bits, it's my first attempt at growing spuds of any sort.

    - hopefully there will be plenty more. I planted 6 seed potatoes in two large containers.

    *Edited to add new "harvest"

I had two potato plants in my salad bar, so I just left them. dug them up today! got around 1lb 1/4 from two plants, which must have been ther sercretly from last year, so have not got a clue of variety, the plants still had potato buds so I have put them back and watered them.

    Ok, completely baffled now.
I dug up the second pot of earlies - smaller pot and only one seed potato, and I got a larger crop - 3lb of potatoes. They've only been in an extra couple of weeks so it shouldn't make that much difference should it?
So I get more potatos if I plant less in a smaller pot.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Mornin all, oh I mean aternoon. Well just done did my firkle, I yeilded a further 3lb4oz making 5lb4oz in all. There were a lot of tiny potatoes and some wee buds still in there, I,ve dumped them all back in and hope to see some more spuds along the way, who knows. I know it not a lot but from one spud from a supermarket bag it,s a good profit. Will do better next time.

    Update from previous post.

I've emptied one container (started 3 seed potatoes off) and the total yield was nearly 7.5lbs!!! :j

Got the seed potatoes from Wilko - variety is Nicola.

I'm hoping the other container is as bounteous :D

I wonder whether we can run up a shortlist of the best yielding varieties people have had this year please? :D

I'm certainly not going to bother with pink apple fir again after this year's disastrous results, although I do still have several plants in the ground but I'd have thought they'd be ready by now having been in the ground since late March

I've still got cara and rooster to harvest yet though ;)

Has anyone had any luck with the Emerald Vale ones? I never got round to putting mine in the ground in spring so going to try this week for winter/xmas spuds :D
