I think I've been digging my taters up too early!
I just dug up the last of my earlies (Arran Pilot), having forgotten about them, for various reasons, for a couple of months. They were massive!
I used to believe the stuff about taters not developing after the haulm has died down, and used to harvest them then, when they were around hen's egg size. But that's not true, they keep growing. Two of these taters (and I think they were off the same plant) were the size of my lower arm. And nearly all the others were pretty big.
True, there were one or two slug attacks after the time they've been in the soil, but nothing serious.
And they still taste good, as we had one for lunch. Just one. Between two of us!!!0 -
