I'm not talking to anyone on this thread!!!!
I only had 3 tiny spuds the size of a marble off one of my plants yesterday
Yes, that does say 9 grams“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -

Hi everyone. I would like to join in. We planted 3-4 seed potatoes we got off freecycle.
I think we pulled them too early but we did get 3lbs of spuds.
Well happy with our first attempt.

Well I dug up all my Vales Emerald and the total came to 5 1/2 pounds. That's from 8 seed pots, so I'm not that pleased with the total. Some of the spuds were huge, as big as my fist and some were teeny but the foliage had all died down so they weren't going to grow any more.
I'm going back to Charlotte next year!Just call me Nodwah the thread killer0 -

In areally wet year you sometimes get all leaf and no spuds and that's what I thought might be happening with mine but there should be at least a few. How far down did you dig I you don't mind me asking? Maybe they're just a bit deep. Are they earlies or late varieties? Maincrop types might not be forming many tubers yet. If so earth up the stems of any plants you've got left and try again in a month - 6 weeks!Just call me Nodwah the thread killer0 -
Ooooh...can I join in please?
One spud, garden grown, unknown variety, yield 2.5lbs today :j
There is just the two of us so we tend to dig em up as we need em and straight into the pan with mint. Then a dollop of butter and sea salt and black pepper...yum!
Feel a bit daft saying it but I just love digging up spuds...you just never know what you are going to find. The most healthy looking and robust plant can yield diddly squat and then the most feeble plant can yield loads. Tis like digging for culinary gold!!0 -
Hi,I have just emptied another pot of VALES EMERALD 1.4k from 1 seed potato.:j
One of my sons payed a visit and took them home with a cauli, spring onions, onions, rasberries, loganberries and says he's coming back tomorrow!!!!!! :rotfl:If you think this has helped make my day and hit the thanks button:beer:0 -
hi nodwah i adimt I have loads of folage, I dug really deep down but nothing just stringly looking roots, have left the rest to retry in few weeks, not sure what type will look on net at home, they were supposed to be earlies, absolutly gutted as was shaking with anticipation0

Dug out my 3 out of 4 potato plant today which I had grown in a compost bag, flowers had come and gone and the foliage was dying down. I was expecting a really good crop as they had gone for longer than the others.
After a long forage through the compost and weighing I got a measly 1lb 13ozfrom 3 seed potatoes. They were pink smile potatoes from homebase.
I think I will try more popular seeds next time.
I will upload a picture as soon as.0 -
