  • Phew! Thank goodness we are back online! I've really missed this site today!

My grand came today! I haven't used it yet but it looks all gleaming and shiny!

I made the spinach pie out of the cookbook and it was really good, I couldn't believe it was me that made it! I got some filo pastry and brushed melted butter on 4 sheets and laid them in the pan with the sides hanging over, put in fried mushrooms and onion and garlic, 4 beaten eggs mixed with a packet of crumbled feta and some grated cheese, fresh herbs out of the garden and then tucked over the hanging ends of filo and topped it with buttered sheets of filo, cooked for 50 mins and it was great! Looked very professional and would be nice with a salad if anyone came round for lunch. Next project with filo is a baklava...I'll let you know how it turns out.

I'm doing a roast dinner tomorrow, chicken etc in the grand, looking forward to that.

BTW I read my meter today and my gas consumption has gone down and electric is about the same as usual, (I even compared it to this time last year) I reckon I am saving on gas by using my remoska as my cooker is gas. Well pleased considering prices are due to go up.

Can anyone tell me the size of the rack. Found a stand out of an old microwave and although it fits under the lid it might be better with a little adjustment to height

Ooooo Hilary, that's given me inspiration.
At work there is a combi microwave, but only the microwave setting gets used....anyhoo....there are 2 racks with it of different heights. They could be perfect for my Grand, when I order it.
Wonder if I can persuade Mr Twit before the prices go up

My grand came yesterday hooray. I had a little play with toasted sandwich - disappointing it took ages! Then made HM pizza for kids which I usually do in oven - also disappointing  more like pizza bread. I can see hubby is starting to get a little smug 'I told you it was too good to be true' BUT I am determined to try again. So today me and little dd are making fairy cakes and it is the obligatory roast chicken for tea...fingers crossed!

PS Forgot to say the pan was also badly dented (twice!) phoned lakeland and once again a lovely lady said she will send a new pan asap and don't worry about sending the old one back, how nice! I wish all retailers were like that

Emmilou - hopefully with the chicken and cakes today it will prove its worth.

I am still getting used to my remoska - to me it doesnt seem to dry things out which is why the chicken is so lovely cooked in there, probably why the pizza was different.

I did choc chip cookies in mine yesterday and they turned out well.

    :j:jMine arrived yesterday :j:j
Made the most delicious potato thing for dinner last night-shoved some sliced onions and pancetta in if for a few minutes, then sliced new potatoes and some thyme and cooked it for about 30-40 minutes was absolutely delicious so am very pleased with it.

The only thing is the pan seems slightly unstable in the stand-wobbles about a lot when stirring -is this normal or have I got a dud?

No it's not normal hotcookie101. Is your pan damaged? My shallow pan arrived mis-shapen and had to be replaced, it wouldn't even fit in the stand. I see also that Emmilou's pan was bashed, so perhaps your pan is not quite round, or something? Is the stand distorted in some way? The pan should seat firmly in the stand. If you ring Lakeland and report it they will undoubtedly send you a new one.

The pan doesn't look damaged and the stand looks ok, but there is definite movement when I press on the pan where the handles are on the stand, is stable across the stand on the opposite sides, so maybe there is a slight distortion. It should be totally stable? Thanks :)
  • Well in the past couple of days I have cooked an Omelette (took 15mins), spare ribs (took 40 mins but tasted lovely and juicy!), sausages (took 30 mins but lovely done)....ATM I have a cornish pasty for OH in there, a ready meal lasagna and a few oven chips for lunch.

Havent put my main oven on in nearly a week.

Am going to do Baked spuds in there tomorrow.

  • blissysmile.gifIt arrived yesterday:D . Haven't used it yet as was out all day on birthday walk & picnic. A little nervous of trying now!!
I had a moments doubt as to whether I had done the right thing in ordering the grand, but I realised that 50% of the time a standard would probably be fine, but it would be frustrating for the remaining 50% of the time. Will definitely use it this afternoon. Might try bread, as we need some. Then roast rolled breast of lamb this evening. Currently reading the cook book & getting inspiration for a few new meals.

    Edit 1.15pm:
Just cooked my lunch. Absolutely delish. And I made myself something using up from leftovers that I just wouldn't have turned the whole oven on for - baked abergine with remains of HM feta, pepper, pinenut sauce between slices done in small pot with sardines. Very healthy and frugal which are both priorites. OH at work so only cooking for one. Put bot on rack to not scrath bottom. Must get some of this magic liner - any suggestiond for anything cheaper than Lakeland (can't afford to add postage for it).
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once
