    Hi,

made a potato, onion and bacon hotpot tonight from a recipe I had picked up on the grocery challenge:

    Potato, Onion and Bacon Hotpot.

This is not my recipe. I found it on one of these grocery challenges a few months ago but am afraid I have no idea who posted it originally.
We thought it was really tasty and simple to do.

Slice a medium potato per person into thin slices (2mm thick)
Slice one large or 2 small onions
Chop up some bacon or ham (1 rasher of bacon per person?)
Make a basic white sauce (we made ours cheesy) Half pint milk quantity.
Grease a deep oven proof dish. Layer the potato, onion and bacon, season with pepper. When you've half filled, put some of the white sauce in then continue filling and finish with white sauce on the top.
Bake in oven at 200c covered for 1 hour then remove cover and finish for another hour at 180c.
    DELICIOUS.

I cooked it in a round roaster I have which fits well inside the remoska and sits on top of some magic liner and covered it with foil for the first hour then uncovered for the second hour and as the poster said before it was delicious and very simple although for the size I did I used 1 1/2 pints of cheese sauce, I just layer up the potatoes, onions and bacon using as much as I think it needs as it really depends on the size of dish you are using for the number of people you want to feed. It reheats really well. I also use chopped cooking bacon (the packs you get with all the mis-shapen end bits)

Since there had been mention of uneven cooking in a previous post I did double check and certainly mine cooks very evenly and I'm really impressed by it.

Sounds very like a recipe in The Paupers cookbook - which is yummy (well I think so anyway!!!!!).

:j Mine is here:j it was left with a neighbour this morning while I was at work and he has just brought it along.

Sooooooo excited.....just got to buy some food to cook in it now:rolleyes:
But these things take time, I know that I'm, the most inept that ever stepped.
  • I did naan bread today in the shallow pan, used the recipe out of the panny book and it was great. I tried doing the curry in the separator pan and the rice in the main pan and it worked out a lot better, less messy then vice versa.

Hope all you new remoskans enjoy experimenting over the weekend!

Hi there, how did you do your rice in it? And wasn't it cooked long before your curry? Sorry if these are daft questions, but curry is one of my favourite meals and I quite like the idea of throwing it all in the remoska :D

Did a roast chicken yesterday, was meant for removing the meat and freezing in portions for other stuff, but kids demanded it for their tea! :rotfl: It just fell off the bone and they loved it. Got foccacia rising in there at the mo, ready to cook later.

To whoever asked about even cooking, mine seems to cook evenly each side, if it only heats or gets hotter on one side I'd give Lakeland a call or take it into the shop, doesn't sound quite right to me.

My Grand Remoska arrived yesterday. We had been out all day at the zoo so it was left with the neighbours.I was surprised how lightweight it is cos tbh I expected it to be heavier with all the comments left.PennyPincher the lid weighs about the same as an average empty large pan if that helps any

Was a little surprised I didnt get a free gift with my Remoska as usually when you order over £60 you get one.But I suppose in their eyes I got a tenner discount so its fair.

Tried it out last night, like you have to ;) and it works great.I'm planning on trying some buns in it later. So will let you know how I get on

  • Thanks for the advice guys!

Lakeland have just called me and honoured their price. I have bought the Grande and rack and they have given me a Ecloth pack free and all items are in stock.:j :j :j :j

Worse case is that I cant use and I have to send it back.

Between this and my SC's I shouldnt need to use the oven, so should save alot in electric.

    .

Hi mummysaver, there's no such thing as a daft question! I put the curry in the separator pan and got it going while I prepared the rice. Basically I rinsed a cupful of basmati rice and put it in the deep pan with 2 cupfuls of boiling water, left it to cook for around 35 mins (it seems to take longer than if you did it in a pan) I tipped it all out into a warm serving bowl and carried on cooking the curry. I didn't cover it and it all turned out lovely, the rice is much fluffier done this way.

I have been giving some things to my dd so I can make room for another remoska. I bought myself a grande with a £10 discount and free e cloths and I have used it already. I did a mix of fresh veg sprinkled with olive oil on the bottom and later put 2 trout on a rack over the veg. It was truly succulent. I was thinking that If I were very organised I could also cook a couple of small puds at the same time. The grande is a different beast altogether but it has endless potential for me, I`ll probably use both equally and I have been putting things into my oven as I now only use it for storage :D

Lakeland had a silicone lifter thing with 2 side handles, in their sale and I bought one. It will be great for getting things out of the grande

Lesley if you email lakeland customer services and explain you spent over £60 they will send you a free gift. Their customer service is excellent!
