Kittie - I will go and Google it - but what's a dutch oven and how do you use it ?
  • RetiredLady - thank you for your kind reply to my request for help.

Do you ever boil rice at same time as , say, curry?
If so, do you use covered insert dishes in some way?

I baked a lovely 2lb loaf in my remoska tonight(and some chocci chip cookies while waiting on the bread dough to rise),Ive not had it long,so im still enjoying experimenting with it,but im a bit annoyed at how grubby the stainless steel cooking lid has got,it seemed to tarnish very quickly:shocked:...
im also still swithering about the £39.99 ideal world one,im thinking cos its square i could maybe have got 2 x 2lb loaf tins in at the same time, but not sure if it wouldve baked them so well?

My remoska tripping leccy for about 2 months on and off. returned to lakeland, they sent replacement inside 24 hours, and took faulty one away.

New one great no problems since.

I have saved so much on leccy and love the results that i am getting from baking in mine, despite above, i would still recommed it to other friends.

Just takes abit of time to get used to cooking the mosky way.
Hope everyone gets their mosky problems resloved quickly

I have done on occasion, I have the divider pan which I put the rice in and the curry in the rest of the pan. It does get a little messy but it does work! Normally though I would cook the curry first and then the rice. I am lucky enough to have two Remoskas so the problem doesn't arise too often:D
Yesterday I cooked jacket potatoes at lunch and made a pasta bake in the bigger one for the family dinner. I do use my Remoska daily, the only time I don't use it is for cooking pizza and oven chips - just find it easier to do those in the bigger oven - mainly because of the amounts I cook, ie 2 pizzas at a time etc.

    Thanks
    Marion

I 'invented' a foolproof way of cooking rice (tho it does require a microwave) so have never needed to try to do it in Remoska. I boil the rice on the hob for 11 mins exactly, then drain it and rinse thoroughly with cold water. Leave it in colander for a while (so you can do it earlier in the day, it's very good-tempered) then when you want to eat put it in microwaveable dish. cover with pierced clingfilm or lid with vent, if it has got very dry add a tablespoon of water and cook on high for a couple of minutes or until hot. It always comes out as separate grains, not all gummy, and is completely foolproof.
But I do sometimes wrap baking potatoes in foil and bung them in with the chops or chicken or whatever else I've got in the remoska, much more economical and only a bit messy !

I've had a standard Remoska for over a year now, which I have been delighted with, and I use it every day. I sometimes wish I'd bought the Grande instead, even though there are only the two of us. A chicken can take a bit of squeezing in, for instance. So I was thinking of getting a Grande with my Christmas money, but I've read a lot of reports of faulty lids and tripping electrics, which seem to be a bigger problem with the larger size. (My standard only occasionally trips the electric, when I'm cooking something 'wet') Plus when I looked last night at the website I was shocked at the price. The Remoska has gone up a lot since last time I looked, and the price of the shallow pans, which I would consider an essential secondary purchase, is truly outrageous!

make no mistake, I still love the remoska for its cooking ability

re the dutch oven and questions: I have been googling and there is masses of stuff about it. It is a very old concept and was initially designed to be used on hot embers so takes a tiny amount of heat to cook, even a roast beef. Mine does not have legs nor a moving handle because its use will be in my kitchen, however it is nice to know that it will cook with hot charcoals and also on an outdoor fire if needed

The casserole I did in it took the teeniest amount of gas, so you could barely see the flame. I won`t go on any more as this is a remoska thread but it is worth googling and doing the you tube videos

All the uses for meat look amazing, but I gave meat up 22 years ago!
I've been trying to read through the thread here to find veggie treats and I've found a few, but wow there are a lot of pages!!

How does the remoska work for vegetarians? Is it good?
I quite like the idea of the grande; I'm mostly cooking for myself, or occasionally for my boyfriend as well, but I'm disabled, and I like to cook in big batches so I can freeze meals for when I'm not able to cook.
I do like the idea of the seperator bit though - has anyone come up with an idea for that in the grande?
With the grande, would you be able to bake 2 loaves of bread instead of one at a time? That kind of thing.

Sorry for all the questions! I'm really looking at getting one of these, but need to know these things first :rotfl:
