has anyone tried doing pork belly in their remoska ? I have a lovely Nigel Slater recipe, and I think Pork belly is a cheapish joint at present so I thought I'd give it a go - if anyone's done it (I have a Standard one) how was it please ?

Well I did my pork belly and it was very good tho the crackling didnt crackle. I finely scored the skin and then rubbed it with garlic and crumpled bay leaf with some olive oil (Nigel Slater's recipe) and then put it in the deep pan for about 1 1/2 hours. About halfway through I parboiled some potatoes and put them round the meat. They fell apart a bit but tasted wonderful because they had all the meat juices in them. meat was very tender and tasty. I'm thinking that next time I should lift the meat up onto the rack for a bit at the end to get it to crisp the crackling. I can recommend this - very cheap and very tasty, and some nice leftovers for sarnies or something. Yum !

I tend to stick the pork under the grill to get the crackling REALLY crispy-I just don't think the remoska does it really well-its only crackled round the edges when I have done it (I do mine over a bed of sliced onions and spuds so it is as high to element as can be) and the hot grill does the trick (just keep an eye on it so it doesnt burn! ruined crackling is heart breaking)
  • HI, to all you Remoska devotees out there,I have recently treated my self to a moska and wondered if it is safe to use my microwave cook ware in it,or will it melt?

I think silicone is OK though, as long as it doesn't touch the outer rim of the top (ie the hot bit) Tho if it does I suppose you could shield it with a bit of foil ? Plastic would certainly melt.
  • Think of your remoska as an oven.
if you have previously put your microwave dishes in the oven and they were fine, then they'l be fine in remoska too-if you would never have put them in your normal oven, then dont put them in your remoska either.
    I agree with taurusbg,plastic will melt,...and china will crack,and glass(unless pyrex)will shatter,stick to ovenproof dishes only.

  • I am a Remoska widow. I had one, loved it, but it tripped the electrics so many times that I complained to Lakeland. They were magnificent, sent a new one out and collected the old one.

Unfortunately the new one tripped the electrics too. The last time it happened I was in the middle of cooking mince for a shepherds pie and there were seven of us waiting for dinner. I threw up my hands in horror and DH phoned Lakeland who offered me a refund or an exchange. I took the refund.

The cheque arrived in the post, two days later for the new price too, when I had paid £10 less. That was about 6 week's ago and I am bereft.

No more lovely bread rolls, fairy cakes, scones, chicken pie and all the things I used to do in the Remoska.

The old Remoska is still in the porch waiting to be collected (should happen Monday) and it's all I can do to keep my hands off it.

Do you Remoska fans (I was a devotee and think I still am) think it is worth the incovenience of being plunged into outer darkness with tripped leccy, for all the benefits a Remoska affords.

I have the money, shall I go for 'third time lucky'?

    Bella.

Oh poor you, I do feel for you. I would hate not to have mine because I think I'd feel so guilty at having to put the big oven on ! let alone not being able to cook lovely juicy, tasty things. But I wonder if it might be worth getting the electricity checked in some way - perhaps your trip is just too sensitive ? (Tho of course that's not a cheap thing to have done either). I think I would just keep trying, tho its easy to say when mine isn't tripping. (Oh dear, I'm now keeping my fingers crossed - don't want to tempt fate !)
Good luck with a difficult decision !
