  • I have a standard remoska, and a friend has lent me a grand to see if I want one.

Want to do a chicken curry using precooked chicken, mushrooms, onions and a jar of curry sauce. I have the shallow pan, and wondered whether I could cook rice in water in the deep pan, with the curry in the shallow pan above.

    Anyone tried this ?

  • Did you mean cooking them both at the same time? If so - the answer is no it won't work!
What I normally do is cook the rice in one Remoska and the curry in the other - they both should take about the same amount of time. Of course you need two Remoskas to do this. Another way of doing it would be to put another dish inside the large Remoska with the rice in. This dish could sit in the curry whilst it is cooking. Hope this makes sense!:o
When life hands you lemons, ask for tequilla and salt and give me a call!!!
  • Thanks retiredlady, didn't think it would work, but thought I would ask

  • I fancy trying macaroni cheese but popping it in the Moska to bake the top. I love this with beans :D I might pop some Broccolli in too. get 2 of the 5 a day there then!

I make my macaroni, or cauliflower cheese in the remoska all the time.
I gently fry some bacon(if I have any, and if using bacon I would add onions as well) in a wee drop of fat(saved from grilling chicken or sausages because it adds flavour).
Then add about a spoonful of plain flour, and stir this in until smooth, put he lid back on for a minute or so, to let the flour cook through. Then add the milk, a wee drop to start with, mix in 'til smooth paste, then add abit more milk and repeat.
You don't have to worry anywhere near as much about the sauce going lumpy, as you have removed the heat source until you have added all the milk. I usually manage to add about 11/2 pints of milk in just three stages.
Then put the lid back on and just check while the sauce thickens.
Once it is as thick as you want it to be, add your grated cheese, a teaspoonful of mustard (and I add some cream cheese if I have it) give it all a good stir and put the lid back on just to let the cheese melt into the sauce.
In the meantime, you will have cooked the macaroni in a pot of boiling water while steaming your brocoli or cauliflower on top.
Drain the pasta and veg and add to your cheesy sauce. Top it with cheesy breadcrumbs, put the lid back on and wait for it to brown and go crisp on top:T.
Of course this can be adapted to taste or availabilty, but it never goes wrong in our house.

did you mean cooking curry in your own standard remoska whilst cooking rice in the grand your friend has lent you?
or did you mean 2 tiers of pan but with only 1 lidded heat source??

Sorry, didn't make myself very clear. I wondered whether I could cook the curry in the shallow pan of the grand, but putting the rice in the deep pan below it. I know the heating element is in the lid, but wondered whether it would get hot enough to cook the rice.

Charlie's mum - depends on how many people you are cooking for, but you could always pop a loaf tin or another dish in the grand and put either the rice or curry in it, so cooking both curry and rice at the same time in the deep pan.

My remoska currently is making my tummy rumble - have sliced potatoes and leeks on the mandolin and layered them, put cauli broken up over the top and covered with a thinnish cheese sauce, baked for a couple of hours, during which the sauce thickens thanks to the pots, covered top with foil for second hour so didn't burn, and will reheat soon for kids dinner and serve with pork and apple sausages, small salad and hm herb rolls!
