Hi cooking-mama,
Is there anything on this thread to help with the halogen oven?
Table-top halogen ovens

I have the Remoska Grande, it's great I love it, plus we noticed a big dip in the electricity bills this year.
However when I first used it, my scones from the recipe booklet came out flat and spread out, my next experiment was some Yorkshire puds which were a complete disaster :rotfl:because the recipe (again from the booklet ) was difficult to read and I got the quantities wrong, very wrong as it turned out.
But....I carried on and I have to say its been great.
However I will admit that it isn't seeing quite as much action as it was as I have recently[STRIKE] fallen in love[/STRIKE] become quite taken with cast iron cookware e.g. Le Creuset casseroles etc and use these a lot at the mo.
I must admit also that my breadmaker is not seeing a lot of use. I got rid of my Kenwood chef mixer because I've got a stick mixer/chopper which for me, is better, my slowcooker is back up on the top of the cupboard for a bit.
I suppose that my main influence is time and at the mo I'm off work sick so technically I have some time to think about cooking and making tea.
My best gadget is the dishwasher, I hate washing up with a passion.
I did laugh when I saw the title of this thread as I knew Geordie Joe would be in here like a shot....:rotfl:DFW Nerd 267. DEBT FREE 11.06.08

cooking-mama wrote: »PS, does anyone know if its possible to cook homemade sausage roll type things in the Remoska? or a steak pie?
I did sausage rolls in mine, the pastry (jus-rol) came out perfect but the meat wasn't quite cooked.
I also did some pies with pre-cooked fillings which came out perfect. I also did some bacon and egg pies but when the pastry was dark brown on top the egg was still raw in the centre of the pie. Maybe I should have used tin foil disks.0 -

Hang on a mo, Cooking Mama, you have just got a Remoska and posted that you would like a Remoska recipes only thread which Penelope Penguin kindly sorted and now you're asking for Halogen Cooker recipe thread.......
Maybe have a search on this forum and see what's available, try some recipes out and post your successes, both halogen and remoska, that way you may get some good use from both gadgets and make sure they don't become dust gatherers.;)DFW Nerd 267. DEBT FREE 11.06.08

Yes, I have tried all those in my halogen oven and all came out perfect, well, as good as they would if I'd done them in my gas oven.
With conventional recipes you have to adjust the temperature and times for your halogen oven. Mine cooks hotter and faster than the conventional recipes say, so I usually reduce the temperature by 20-25 degrees and knock 10 minutes off the time. If the food is not cooked after that I can always up the temp and cook it for a bit longer.
it's trial and error at first, but you soon get to know what needs to be cook for less time or at a lower temperature.0 -

I bought mine at the beginning of this year due to rave reviews on that thread. I love it. My Mum bought one to take back to Denmark with her after she'd seen mine in action. She uses hers lots too, and has just asked me to get her the rack for it.
I'm a single-person household most of the time, and don't have a microwave. I use mine for anything that would otherwise go in the oven, with the exception of chips/roast potatoes. I find that most things are nicer in the Remoska as they don't dry out as much... that would be why chips/roasties don't work in it for me.0 -

Or maybe it's evidence that it is just like a normal oven. People don't have special halogen oven recipes, they just cook as normal but adjust the temp and times.
Sorry to keep going on about this, but they are just ovens that get a bit hotter and cook a bit quicker than normal ovens. All you have to do is get used to this and you will be confident in cooking anything from a "normal" recipe.0
