I used to have one of those halogen ovens justamum. It broke down soon after the guarantee was up and it took up a lot of space compared to the remoska, which tucks into the corner of a cupboard

Be careful re cake tins that you don`t get one that is too tall. Mine don`t fit in so I`m looking out for one either 7" or 6" in diameter. I have made the almond cake twice now in the supplied tin and it turned out nice

silicone is very useful. I bought a large cheap food grade sheet and have cut 4 x 8" circles. I put a little 50p size hole in the centre of one and cut out a central 4" circle out of another one. This one is very useful to put on bread/cakes 2/3 of the way through cooking as the edges brown more than the centre. The one with a small hole is proving useful for cakes and I use 1 solid one underneath any dish or cake and the other solid one as a cover over a casserole

We wanted a bit of cake today so I got the be-ro book out and made chocolate brownies
4 oz marg, 2 oz plain choc. Melt over water. cool. Stir in 6 oz soft dark brown sugar and 2 beaten eggs. mix in 4 oz sr flour and 2 oz chopped walnuts
I popped it all into the shallow tin, on a piece of bakewell paper (or silicone) and cooked for 25 mins. Turned it out on a tray and it was absolutely wonderful

I did the usual fridge search ie what are we eating tonight: I did the courgette/passatta recipe from the extra remoska book but changed it a bit for 2 of us
2 courgettes sliced thinly, 1 onion chopped, 1 clove garlic sliced, some thyme, tin of chopped tomatoes. Layered. Cooked 20 mins then put slices of half a halumi cheese on top and cooked another 20 mins. Served with rice and steamed cabbage (cooked on top of the rice in a steamer). That was really really nice. Very tasty and with a bit of a crunch

I am so so pleased with the remoska

Remoska chips....... I can't get enough of them! Cut up chips, mix with tiny bit of oil or low fat spray and cook for 45-60 minutes. Low fat, delicious. Also spicy potato wedges - same as above but sprinkle with Cajun seasoning or whatever you fancy. I love my Remoska.

Long ago I bought an energy plug, one in which I put the cost per kwh (ebico so I know it is a straightforward 12.72p ) and I will be able to read off the exact cost of using the remoska to make this quiche from scratch and I have finished. The cost is exactly 3.18 pence. That is wonderful as the oven would cost approximately 36pence

I know it is going to seem to take ages to recoup the cost but If I say that 3 cakes/quiches/scones will make a £1 difference and a casserole approx 70 pence. I should think in a week I will save at least £6 so it will take only 3 months and after that I will be in profit :j
    Thanks (I think) ;)
Did I really want to have justification for spending money?

I agree - the baby one is a bit too small for the price and I wouldn't go for it.

I've got the Standard one and I wish I'd gone for an even bigger one, but I couldn't afford it at the time. I rarely use my oven now - once a fortnight maybe.

Thanks, I was looking at them today and came on here to get advice about which size to buy for one person.
MSE is great, you can always find someone with experience to point you in the right direction.
Off to Lakeland on Monday :j

OK, you've convinced me - I've just ordered a standard one from Lakeland along with the cook book. DH doesn't seem convinced that it will be worth the £80 it cost, but I'm sure I will use it as I use my slow cooker and steamer all the time.

anyway, anything that cuts down on cleaning the oven is OK with me :D

my mum bought me the little insert pan that fits inside the main pan for doing separate things in at the side of the main dish - I've never quite found a use for it yet which seems a terrible - I'd love to know if others have this - and to what use they put it!

ubamother I have it and use it. Last time I did a chicken curry in the pan and small baked potatoes in the side bit. Great result too

I did a coconut cake from weezl174 thread. 45 minutes in the remoska and was scrumptious
