  • Freecycle, you could try asking for one on "freecycle", it worked for me:j, and someone else on here (sorry can't remember offhand who it was) got one for £2 from a charity shop. You could also try looking out for one at a car boot sale or thrift shop.

I am so veeeeery pleased with mine, and even hubby hasn't moaned about "more clutter", but I think that's because I installed it while he was at work so he didn't see it until he had tasted it's produce.

when you say popcorn - as in oil and pop the corn in the remoska?? wouldn't that ruin the teflon?

I was a bit worried about that too but in the User's Guide there are a few recipes e.g the yorkshire pud that says to heat the oil first so I guess it is OK.
I tried a few pieces of popping corn earlier. It took a while but it worked although I didn't taste it so can't give an opinion on that bit.
Once it had started popping I took the lid off, experiment over, but the corn carried on cooking and was pinging round the kitchen until I could shove the lid on again.
I don't know if I'll do it again as the oil was starting to smell really hot.
If anyone else tries it please let us know how you get on.

Watching the corn made me think of roast chestnuts at christmas. They should be OK in the remoska don't you think?
  • Had sausages and onions cooked in it tonight - cooked for longer than the oven but very nice and the kitchen didnt smell at all after - one thing I hate - cooking onions.

Was used yesterday for roast pork - very nice and tomorrow again for cooking chicken - definately getting the hang of it and sadly cant wait to get the electric bill!
  • We cooked oven chips, onion rings and garlic bread in there tonight to go with the steak and salad.....yummy!

  • I roasted a load of peppers/carrots/corgettes with bacon rashers on rack above for tomorrows 2 x packed lunches. Mixed with some bulgar wheat and tastes yummy. Tomorrow I am making cornish pasties for the first time:D . Next time i'll do twice as much I think.
Freecycle - the ones on ebay sell for more than brand new from Lakeland:confused: .
Louie tudor - I love how you explaned how it's change the way you cook. For me too, it os more than saving on the electric, important as that is, it is broadening my range of what I cook and I haven't got as far as you have yet but gradually getting there. Thanks for the foil dish tip.
Another bonus for us, is no smeech after cooking aroast - our oven seems to smoke like crazy when any fat in a pan. From he remoska - nada.
DH - really sorry about the 2nd grand not fitting properly either:confused: . You've been very unlucky.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once

Thanks BB, no probs I'm happy with my standard :)

LouiseJ, I think you get some discolouration, if it bothers you they recommend some kind of cleaner at lakeland but I'm not sure what it is.

Today in my remoska....I've done a marmalade cake out of the Mary Berry cake book but increased the quantities, mixed together 6oz marg, 6oz caster sugar, 2 eggs, 1 tbspn soya flour & tblspn water (instead of 3 eggs) 2 tbspns marmalade (I substituted 1 of them for 1tbspn ginger preserve) 8oz dried fruit (poo, just realised I didn't increase the quantity of this bit should have been 12 oz) 9oz sr flour & 3oz cherries, put in the pan and cooked for about 40 mins, the book says 1-1 1/2 hrs so quicker. I've got rice in there at the mo for tomorrows packed lunch. Tonight its leftover beef stew with mash and last nights veg bake was delish!

I made the Turkey Meat Loaf from the cookbook last night and was going to do some mash with it but decided to do jacket potatoes in with the loaf instead.
The loaf is really easy to make and very moist so will be making it again! :T

Going to try the salmon fishcakes later in the week - they had better be nice because the salmon wasn't cheap!

My Dad rang me at the weekend asking for advice before he decided on buying a Remoska! I must have been talking about it more than I thought! lol :o

  • I'm a Remoska newbie! Inspired by this thread I finally gave into temptation and bought a Remoska. I made a risotto in it yesterday, which was lovely. Today, I've prepared a meat pie to go in it, and I've also prepared a quiche base for the freezer with the spare pastry.
Then I glanced at the recipes to get an idea for how long it takes to cook a pie ... umm... or to blind bake for a quiche .... double ummm.

Can anyone help me? Have you any idea - an approximate guestimate would be fine, just that I don't even know where to start. Don't even know how long they'd need in a normal oven :o Oops, should have thought of that before ....
  • After reading all the thread about the remoska I finally went and got myself one :j . So far in it ive made roast chicken, sausages and chips, italian sausagemeat and chips (ive also discovered that I can use the rack I bought for it upside down put the sausage meat on it so fat still drains away and then place a round baking tray on top with chips on it) and yesterday I made homemade soup in it which was lovely, had enough for leftovers today and theres still a small amount left which I might freeze for one lunch.

    I think its great :money:
