As sciatica is more of a nerve thing rather than support, you may be better off asking your doctor.

Normally pocket sprung/memory foam is the best for back support, but you might not want the mattress to mould to the part of your back that hurts.

Phoned my doc and she just said whatever i find comfortable.

Have been quoted £648 including delivery to NI for king size Madrid with sprung base (no storage). Guaranteed for 12 months then pro rata after that (whatever that means). Will arrange collection free of charge if there is a problem within that time. Am reluctant to pay this amount for something I haven't tried though. Is this a good price Tim?

Im sure he will say yes since it will be his sale ....;)

I know what you are saying. However it wouldn't be a breach of ASA regulations because there is no need to turn a one sided mattress.

Please don't be gullable enough to think that in the bed trade it is all clear plain English. The industry is full of gimmicks and hype.

But you clearly don't know what I'm saying. A 'no need to turn' mattress is not a one-sided mattress. You have the option to turn it if you wish because it is double-sided. A 'non-turn' mattress is one-sided, and cannot be turned.

Please don't be so patronising. You may sell beds for a living but there are plenty of contributors to this board capable of researching and thinking for themselves; therefore unlikely to fall for hype - including yours.

In that case, they should print 'If you are too lazy to turn your mattress and will buy a new one when one side wears out completely in half the time, there is NO NEED to turn this mattress'

Hi everyone, I've just stumbled across this forum in my bid to hunt down a new mattress (to replace the £500 bed I bought last year which has already started to feel rather uncomfortable!) - having almost forgotten what a good nights sleep feels like I've realised the hard way just how important it is to get a good mattress and was hoping that someone more clued up then myself might be able to help me with my next choice? I really like the feel of the beds I sleep in when I stay at 5 star hotels; would anybody be able to advise what kind of mattresses are used in these hotels and if there is a specific company that makes these mattresses to the same standard as the ones in the hotel?

    Hi Tim,
Are you able to advise which companies are know for producing top end coil sprung or pocket sprung mattresses? Throughout the forum I notice people mentioning Vi-Spring, Millbrook, JL's own brand, Hypnos, and La Romantica beds - would these be good examples? Also, is there a difference between coil sprung and pocket sprung?
    Thanks Tim.

Then, if possible, I'd get down to a bed centre and try some. Just so you know how they feel and what suits you. Try ones that roughly fit your budget, so you dont price yourself out of a new one, but where possible at least try open coil, pocket sprung and memory foam so you know how they differ. Then you can make a more informed choice depending on quality and price of beds avaialble online...

I think it's probably the cheapest you would get one delivered to NI for. Just make sure you go through the t&c's with a fine tooth combe.

The last time I sent one to NI Niightfreight damaged it, then tried to wriggle out of it. So that was the last time I used a courier for a bed.

    Hi,
I was looking at this mattress http://www.bedswarehouse.co.uk/Restus-Chicago-4ft-6-Double-12inch-Mattress.html but was told on here it was a medium one but I'm really looking for a firm one as I've been reading on here they are better at preventing 'roll together'. Can anyone recommend a firm one that's similar please? I'm not having much luck especially as I thought this one was firm.

Tim suggested that at my price range I'd be better off getting a better open coil one than a pocket one so is this one considered a 'better' open coil mattress?

    Thanks

The one in the link is twin sprung (two layers of open coil springs). I don't know of any twin sprung mattresses that are firm. So you might be better off going for a single layer of springs (12.5gauge).
