Personally, I'm appalled at your last post. Are you serious in saying most fire man have businesses on the side, and this should be expected
I'm not going to defend Tim because I know he does a pretty good job of that himself.
However, I can tell you that my OH used to be a fireman. Quite a few years ago, granted, so things have changed since the shift patterns that were in force then and I'm not 100% sure how things work now. When my OH was a fireman it was very common for them to have a second job. In fact, everyone on OH's watch had a second job, even the sub-officers. Possibly not the Station Officers, but very definitely the others. The jobs were also very varied. Security work was very common, as were driving jobs.
Have you thought to ask whether Tim is a retained fireman? Where I live that is all we have.
Have you asked him his shift pattern? Last I heard they work 12 hour shifts, 2 days on, 2 nights on, then four days off. That's four out of every eight days off. What they do on the other four days is surely up to them.
I don't see how what else Tim does can have a bearing on his bed business. Would you still be slating him if he was a fireman who also did decorating "on the side" and came on here to give people advice about wallpapering and painting? He is giving advice for people to take or leave. There's a lot of people on here give advice and pass on information concerning what they do for a living - builders, decorators, tilers, kitchen designers, etc.
I'm old enough to remember when it was the norm to turn mattresses (so presumably they were made to be slept on both sides back then) and I also remember when "no turn mattresses" were introduced, promoted as an easier option than struggling with the job of turning them.
The rules of this forum don't allow Tim to promote his business, but you are doing a very good job of it.0 -
Tim,

You really must think we're all stupid - or too lazy to read the entire thread - which is evidently what you rely on!
Do other civil servants earning valuable tax payers money also have 'businesses on the side' ? I haven't seen any surgeons, doctors, nurses, policemen, military personnel, paramedics, etc... or other, claim this here, or anywhere else. I personally would like to think they were doing their jobs, which we as tax payers thankfully respect and thank them for. Your comments are both ignorant and arrogant.
Again, personally, I find it repulsive, as my son is only 19 and is soon to go on his first tour of Afghanistan - you're comments are an embossment to the good people who serve our country with pride and dignity - not using it as a meal ticket / safety net / pension certainty/ to do something else on the side.
To further claim you are an 'expert' with beds is down right misleading to us all. You are, after all, an 'expert fire man'. And no one would question that.
(Your response would also explain the middle of the night posts that you make - the taxpayer is essentially financing you to spend time serving yourself, and business, on this website. (I really wonder what your station commander and the Daily Mail would make of your comments, and how your time is spent?)
Furthermore, please answer me this, as the more I read from you, the more suspicious I am.
Did Which? contact you, or did you contact which?
(I assure you I'll be sending an email to Which? to substantiate the FACTS immediately after this, as you have been found on countless posts prior to this to pick and choose your questions / answers. The very notion that Which? rely on part time 'industry experts' would completely destroy their reputation!!!
I have never been so incensed!!!
Do you, or do you not, have any advice for me or anyone else?I
I have asked a few questions about certain mattresses and companies which you have chose to ignore - do you know healthbeds, or the memory mattress people - both evidently and impartially recommended by Which?
Spare me the time of saying that 'I'd be better off with a small British independent manufacturer' then telling me you 'can't recommend anyone' as this is useless to us all!!!
You don't have to recommend, just tell us who these people are!!! (If they exist, and don't sell the 'double sided mem-foam mattress your company sells when readers type it in to Google!!! In which you're company comes 'bedlum beds' comes up!!!)
I am so disappointed with you, this site, and very angry!
Mo
I do a 42 hour week with the fire service, and what I do with the rest of my time is none of your business.
Your post is offensive, and very insulting, and completely against forum rules.
Like I said before, if you don't like what I say then ignore me, I'm not interested in helping you now anyway.
Now stop bothering me, and upseting the forum unless you have something constructive to say.0 -
It appears that we'll have to agree to disagree Tim.
You have repetitively called yourself an 'expert' on this thread and also indirectly claimed you are an advisor or at least 'in league' with Which?
If you could back these statements up with any independent facts or credentials whatsoever I would happily concede that the other salesman (that gave me contradictory advice to yours) were either wrong or misleading me.
The problem however is that you haven't.
You have also avoided the direct question about your relationship with the Which? people - again.
Back to the reason why I casme on to this thread:
I think we will go with the healthbeds matt and join the Quidco system for the money back offer.
I will let you all know how we get on with the mattress in due course!

go away and stop bothering me, i've told you i'm not answering any more of your questions after you insulted me.0 -
Does anyone have any comment on whether Joeseph mattresses are any good? I don't seem to be able to find out what companys are small independant manufacturers are - most of the companies seem to claim to be 100% british.
I've been trying to read through the thread and glean out the relevant info (maybe there could be a new thread specifically for Tim bashing).
So far, my conclusions are:
avoid :silentnight group, ikea, rest assured, myers, simmons, highgrove and snuggle
go for : restus, la romantica, kozee sleep or health beds.
also, does anyone have any online shop info, good or bad, eg there customer service, how they deal with problems etc?0 -
Hi,
New poster, (not in the bed industry). I’ve been looking around for a new Bed as well.
This is a bit anecdotal so bear with me.
As has been previously posted it’s hard to make a judgement on a mattress/base combination in 10 minutes, best way to test it is to actually spend a few nights sleeping on one.
I’ve done a lot of travelling for my job and stayed in a lot of hotels. I normally try to find the label on the hotel beds that I sleep in (not always easy) and I have noticed a few things.
- Good Hotels spend a lot of money on their beds.
- The most comfortable beds I’ve slept in tend to be from pocket spring construction/manufacturers.
- They tend to customise their beds so it’s difficult to buy the exact same bed direct from manufacturer.
Result is that there are beds from a few manufacturers that I’ve always found comfortable.
After doing some research I ended up heading down to the Hypnos Factory Showroom. I spent two weekends trying out their bed range..
As my last question seems to have got lost in the middle of a arguement i'll ask again.
Is a hypnos pocket spring 1000 mattress any good?
£275 for a king size
Thanks
I Think Hypnos 1000 is from the bedstead range? We spend most of our time on the Heritage range of beds. TBH they’re all pretty comfortable so I doubt you'll go wrong, just make sure you try the bed out first.
The improvement stepping up range gets minimal compared to the price increase. Depends on how much money you’re willing to fork out.
Personally, we settled around the mid-range. More comfort without into silly money, gave us options on colour & tension.
I know they’re not the cheapest & might not be the best value for some, but I find it difficult to get a good night’s sleep so value a really good mattress/bed.
P.S. Surprised that Simmons didn’t get a thumb up. Slept on quite a few in US hotels & they’ve always been good.0 -

Joseph mattresses are good middle of the range, they do a wide range so I guess its depends on exactly what you are looking at and at what price. I have used them before for the Kiddies Cotton mattresses and was very happy with them.0 -
This site is becoming a bit of a joke, no proper recommendations are given, you ask Tim a question and he just skirts around the issue never giving a proper answer.
I visited several stores looking originally for a mattress, but in the end I purchassed a Millbrook pocket sprung double divan (On line and through Quidco a lot cheaper)which by the way is great, gone has my bad back and aches and pains.
I think it would be a good idea on this site for people (not stores) who have purchassed mattresses or beds to give their opinions they are not advertising just giving their opinions not everybody wants the same type of bed, and I think that would be a great help to everyone.0 -

My thoughts exactly!
The same opinion, regurgitated over and over...
The real users, asking real questions, looking for real feedback and experiences, totally ignored.
Then of course, the pertinent questions about claims made, once again, totally avoided...
I will be sure to report back on my purchase and hope this will help bring this sorry mess to an end...0
