I'm so glad I've read this thread today as I was on the verge of buying a La Romantica mattress from Bedlum Beds!
My hubbie (the accountant) was less than convinced but I was totally sold by what I'd read on here. Today I've seen posts that seemed fairly informed removed which have been a catalyst to for my husband to do some digging.
I feel cheated as I believed everything I'd read on this forum and was on the cusp of buying a la romantica venice from Tims company - Bedlum Beds.
After seeing the posts today (which have now been removed) Malcolm has checked the companies house website and it appears all is not what it seems! Bedlum Beds have only been trading since 2006 and in December 2008 they were threatened by companies house to be struck off and the company dissolved as they had not supplied any accounts or information!!!
We now have no way of establishing whether this company is solvent and would never even consider spending my money with them. All I can say is I'm so glad this info came to light today as I had been totally taken in!
If you're in doubt, go to companieshouse gov uk and search on Bedlum Beds - it only cost M £1 to download the records.0 -

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to answer this, but I should be given the chance to defend myself:
The threat was only due to late returns, which were actually submitted late lats week. So I presume it takes a while to update the system at Companies House, but that report is already out of date.0 -

I can't say this surprises me!
I'm not looking to discredit this guy, but you simply can't post OPINION as FACT!!! This is what really annoys me. (Along with this OPTIMUM mix of mattress materials - an opinion or FACT as he calls it shared by NO ONE ELSE - and the very cocky way he rubbishes everyone that has real EVIDENCE or OPINION to the contrary...
He claimed today (later removed by MSE) that he sells 20,000 mattresses a year!!! ( I wonder if he delivers them all on the Luton van pictured on his website..?)
He must be the bionic man given that he's also an engineer, fireman and bed expert!!! (With a shop on Ebay...)
I have to say I've never felt so much distain for an individual but on reflection I really don't want to cause him any ill will. He obviously has a family and needs to make a living and is struggling in the current climate.
I wish you well Tim - I really do. But please keep it factual - otherwise you will no doubt incense those that think as I do...

Yawn, (this is getting boring now)0

I have been searching this site for days and every MattressI have asked about I have been told was no good. I think I better stick with my old mattress. Surely people on this site can recommend mattresses or why are we looking on here.0

Isn't it though! Anyone want to start up a fresh thread?!
Anyway...further to my previous post about Blindcraft, I'm really keen to hear anything that anyone knows about these types of manufacturer; where their products can be purchased, what the quality's like, etc.
Are there any other similar organisations, particularly in SE England?
So far I've found:
Blindcraft (Edinburgh) blindcraft.co.uk
Glencraft (Aberdeen) glencraft.co.uk
Remploy remploy.co.uk
Royal Strathclyde Blindcraft Industries
Ulster Supported Employment usel.co.uk
Sure Sprung (Swansea)
Personaly I'd prefer my money went to a not-for-profit organisation if possible.0 -
It is my opinion, through experience, that a flat tyre does not run as well as an inflated tyre; this is also a fact, without the benefit of empirical research.
Likewise, it is a fact that a brick wall is not as yielding as a mattress, but I did not have to run into either of them to prove my point, nor to adopt the opinion that it is more comfortable to sleep on the latter rather than the former.
If one stays under water long enough, it is my opinion they will drown. But I don't need an empirical drowning to make it a fact. People drown readily enough without the need for experiment.
Research indicates that a person is more likely to die if struck by a car travelling at (say) 100mph than if struck by a car at (say) 10mph. No doubt most people would be of the opinion that this is a fact. But it did not necessitate that any person be deliberately run down to prove it.
Empirical research is likely to reach a conclusion consistent with the interests of those who instigated it, otherwise there would be no point in the research.
What about the experts' view that we are all in danger of being wiped out by swine 'flu? It is my opinion that we won't, but it will take the deaths of all of us to prove me wrong.
The point of my little diatribe is that it is just that - a diatribe, like those foisted on this thread by certain others who, under the guise of honest appraisal, are arguing semantics - the meaning and uses of words and phrases. And that is no more than their opinion, and deserving of no more credence than might be afforded to it by any reader.
I stand in no particular camp but feel that some people are like metaphorical suicide-bombers, bent on the destruction of that which they disagree with or don't understand.
Watch my lips:- This thread and any advice, opinion or fact within it is not compulsory.;)0 -

It is not semantics if someone is saying that it is a fact that all big brand beds "are rubbish", the only good mattresses are the expensive ones ones they sell... That was my only reason for discussing fact and opinion. Now I am going to try and stop reading this thread and get back to the freebies thread where I usually am!0 -

I rest my case. Please close the door after you.:rolleyes:0 -

Hi Tim.
Thanks for your private message and explanation.
Malcolm has however been a chartered accountant for 18 years and won't just won't have it. He's adamant there's no excuse for not providing accounts or company information in nearly 3 years to companies house and says you would have had "countless demanding correspondence"
There's no way he'll now let me buy from you now. Sorry.
Thanks for the message though.0
