This is a perfect example of large chain stores getting manufacturers to make a mattress to a slightly different spec, then change the name, and charge over the top prices.
If you search around you can also find it cheaper than the one you found on ebay.
If I were you I would cancel the order with Dreams, but then try and find a similar mattress that is two sided on line.
Thanks for the reply. I missed the double/single sided part, heh.
The problem I now have with finding a similar mattress online is that I wont have tried it and it might end up too soft or firm. In dreams they had three different mattereses with their most firm rating of 1 yet all three were very different.
If you could recommend (which it seems like you cant) a similar mattress then great, but otherwise it looks like Ill have to stick to my overpriced order
At least it is comfortable and I opted for the 10 year guarantee so hopefully it will last.
The other thing I forgot to mention is that its going on a slatted base which I read you said if the gaps are more than an inch, a pocket sprung mattress should no go on it. I guess thats why dreams didnt say anything because its double sided.
Thanks again0 -
Incidentally both their websites are pretty rubbishy for any potential purchasers trying to sort out the differences between the different beds, but then La Romantica Beds is even worse!!!!
Quite agree! If Tim wasn't recommending this company would anyone even consider it based on the website.......?0 -

Whilst they try to give out as much information as possible, they admit that they aren't experts, and that they only produce a rough guide. The last guide they did was in 2006, but in the next one they produce they may be making a few changes.
The Which report is out, their Best Buy pocket sprung being the John Lewis Pocket Comfort 1 mattress. Does anyone know who makes the JL brand? Apart from that their recommendations are similar to the earlier report.
Tim - you have previously stated that an open coil is fine for a single mattress, but do you know of a turnable open coil with memory foam?
Incidentally, Which? advises not to shop for a bed when you are tired, "as they'll all feel great"!0 -

Trying a bed out in a store doesn't guarantee that it will be the right one in the long term, it will only give you a rough idea. You need to sleep on a bed for a few nights to be sure that it is the right one for you. Is it Dreams who do the comfort guarantee?
Some on line companies will give a satisfaction guarantee. You will find that most of them are very helpful as it is in their best interest to make sure you make the right choice the first time, otherwise it will cost them money.
You need to read the terms and conditions of the 10 year guarantee very carefully. Most of these extended guarantees are actually insurance policies, and you could find that for example if you return it after 9 years then you have to pay 90% of the cost of the replacement.
If you use it on a slatted base then you will probably void your guarantee.0 -

I agree, their web sites are terrible. But they don't make web sites, they make beds, and most people guying beds actually go to the sellers web sites, not the manufacturers.0 -

As far as I know you can't get a two sided open coil sprung/memory foam mattress. However this isn't as critical with open coil springs as they are far tougher than pocket springs.
Do you have a link to the latest report, as I didn't realise that there was a new one out yet?0 -

Thanks again for your reply. I have managed to put my order with dreams on hold which gives me more time to decide.
Dreams do indeed offer the 40 day comfort guarantee.
I cannot find anything unusual about the t&c of the 10 year guarantee. I am buying the bedstead from dreams too so there should be no issue with using it on the slatted base.
As I cant decide what would make one particular mattress better than another online I have decided to take a look at the John Lewis ortho range with the most expensive being £699 so basically a similar price to what Im paying for the dreams one. I notice that they are not turnable. Are they likely to be better than the dreams one ?
To be honest I regret reading up on this subject because there is way too much choice and no definitive answers as to which is better etc. I was happy with what I chose in dreams and I should probably stick with it, lol0 -

I was glad to have come across this thread as it armed me with some knowledge before going out to buy a mattress. I now know that I have to add extra slats to my bed for when my pocket sprung mattress arrives in a couple of days. We have bought the JL Natural pocket sprung 1 mattress, different to the "comfort" one, ours has no foam in it, it is turnable, we needed it quickly as we are having company and they delivered in a week. It cost £2950 -
Been to John Lewis and chosen the Vi-Spring Craftsman for £795
Lifetime guarantee, hand made and we are having it made with one side firm and the other medium. Definitely worth the hundred odd pounds extra over the dreams mattress.

Ours is for the spare room so won't be used much, new slats are on the bed now, ready for the new mattress. Don't know when we will need a new bed for our room but I am glad I found this thread to help me choose.0
