  • How do you know whether the firmness of a mattress will be good for you in the long run? I'm a side sleeper, so is it just a case of seeing if your spine is straight or is there more to it? It seems I'm trying to turn this into a scientific exercise and ending up frustrated. >.<

Also, I'm amazed how much difference the pillow seemed to make when I was trying some beds out today. Anyone have any tips on choosing a decent pillow? :D

    Tim,

It wasn't pocket springs, there was one of those but it was out of our price range.

It wasn't encapsulated, I asked about that after reading on here that they may retain the heat.

I don't know the density, but you could deffinately feel foam, not springs.

    It's £245 - am I allowed to say that?

Hello everyone. Better start off by saying I SELL BEDS for a living too, within the independant trade. Have been reading this thread for a while so if it's OK I will join in.

AuntyCat. The mattress you tried was almost certainly a Sleepvendor 'Prelude' which is made in the same factory as 'Dorlux' & 'Sleepline' (in Halifax I think) I am not completely au fait with this model but I understand its got a 'Flexiform' spring unit (variation of open coil) with a 30mm top layer of memory foam, don't know the density but it's probably v55. I think itmay be a fairly new model that came out last year. £245 isn't excessive but if they want your business they will come down on that if you persist.

    Welcome to MSE

Maybe you know the outcome of Dorlux's bankrupcy hearing a couple of months ago?
  • Great to have some new input. :)

    thanks Tim

Sorry I don't know what the outcome was and searching the net doesn't bring anything up. I can try and find out from others who maybe more in the know.

I know that last time they went Bankrupt they were bought out by the brother of the owner within 2 hours. I was wondering if the same thing had happened this time.
  • I think your about right there. I seem to remember something similar happened in 2007. Rumor was that they wanted to extrciate themselves from a contract they had with a well known catalogue showroom retailer. On that occasion whithin a short time of being told ther was 'trouble at mill' it was 'business as usual'
  • I've just noticed this thread.

Need some advice on type of mattress to buy.

Although the bed is only 4yrs old I am finding I am waking with a sore lower back most days. I do think the mattress is possibly too soft.

There are so many different types of mattress available now I'm scratching my head as to which type to go for.

Can anyone explain the differenced between mattresses and which would be better to help with my back.

What is the make and model of the mattress you have at the moment?

    Also what is your budget?
  • It's a Slumberland Bronze slumber deluxe and my budget is up to £300
