Hi Tim,
I don't sleep well on metal beds, apparantly its the same as having electrical equipment in the bedroom, if your sensitive/bad sleeper they can effect you, theyre also noisy
I had one before and just couldn't get on with it, so stick to wood.
Yes I agree W E are expensive, but guaranteed for 10 years (I think our old one is almost that) and we figure an investement, although I'd feel alot better if I could get a bit off!
Were keeping our old mattress as we have a topper on it and its still good, we turn/hoover it so it really doesnt need replacing so it's just the bed.
The one we want is £500 inc delivery for a kingsize, I suppose not a fortune but quite a bit more than our second choice.
ThanksWaddle you do eh?0 -
Couldn't you buy a natural wooden bed and then stain it? Would probably work out a lot cheaper.0

Ikea beds will hold standard mattresses. You'll just end up with it being slightly longer (10cm iirc) so the mattress doesn't quite reach the end.
John Lewis look like they have a few. Something like this? Not sure about the spacing between the slats but you could always work around that if it's a problem anyway.0 -
Hi Gamma,
Thanks for that, the John Lewis ones are laquered so would that be possible to stain?
Would the laquer have to be stripped first?
We measured the Ikea beds and the mattress is a bit wider too for a kingsize, so ours would be about 6cm to thin, just a bit too scruffy I think...
Thanks tho, I have been looking for weeks and its amazing that nobody does a plain black wooden bed! :rolleyes:Waddle you do eh?0 -
I would imagine you'd have to strip it first, yeah. Second-hand furniture shops might be a good place to look.0

Hi Tim,
The retailers don't have a web site, It's just a small local shop.
When I phoned this morning she didn't want to give me the details, as she said I would try to find it cheaper on the net! Eventually that is what she told me.
It's a sprung(600+ springs) with a layer of memory foam, but I don't know how thick.
It seemed to be just what we wanted & a good price, but now I's a bit suspicious. They are a long established shop with a good reputation though.
Confussed.
600 springs doesn't sound like pocket sprung, and wouldn't be enough springs if it was. So I presume it is twin open coil sprung, or possibly the cheaper reflex foam encapsulated pocket spring type with smaller and fewer pocket springs.
If it is made by Dorlux then it could be old stock because they were in the Bankrupcy court recently (I'm not sure of the outcome).
Can you remember if the side of the mattress felt like foam, or could you feel springs?
Do you know the depth and density of the memory foam?0 -
I found one!
10% off - 3267 just worked online.
Thanks everyone anyway. xWaddle you do eh?0 -

It would be a lot of time and effort to strip the laquer. However it is quite easy to buy pine beds in the white (bare wood).0 -
Tim,
It wasn't pocket springs, there was one of those but it was out of our price range.
It wasn't encapsulated, I asked about that after reading on here that they may retain the heat.
I don't know the density, but you could deffinately feel foam, not springs.
It's £245 - am I allowed to say that?0
