Which mattress? (merged threads)

  • Can anyone post a link to the Which report please? I've had a look but can't find it.

Looking to replace either my mattress or the entire bed and spent days reading all these posts but I'm still confused. Have had a superking size Nestledown Boston Support-a-Paedic for about 5 years but it's rubbish! Tried a 2" memory foam topper on it and it improves the comfort slightly but still can't get a decent nights sleep and wake up aching. Bothered with lower back problems.

Would replacing just the mattress with something like a Restus Trident help?

I could use the mattress topper if felt a little too firm.

Or am I better replacing the whole thing? Heard lots of differing opinions on whether just replacing mattress will invalidate its warranty, will be fine, or is the best and cheapest option if budget is tight. Don't mind downsizing to a King size.

Also looked at the Millbrook Aprila 1260 and the Restus Coniston.

Sorry - tried to put the links in, but I'm not very good. Any advice welcome.

    Hey MrBruce,

I'm no bed expert, but as I own and sleep on the HD ergoflex, I do know what I have experienced, and I totally disagree with Tim Deegan.

As I said, it is warmer than our normal mattress was, but nowhere near as warm as the previous memory mattress we originally slept on when on holiday. It also doesn't 'engulf' you as Tim says it will - it seems to soften slightly after being in bed for a while, and is very comfy, yet with a firm underneath that stops you from sinking in too far.

I understand it won't be to everyone's taste - but we find it brilliant!

As I said mama_mia, the mattress obviously suites you. But Mr Bruce's first question was:

my wife's worried about it getting too hot, as she's going through 'that' period in her life if you know what I'm saying.

You did say that it is warmer than a normal mattress, so it wouldn't really be suitable for MrBruce's wife. You have already said that you have had to change to a summer quilt to combat the extra warmth. There are two reasons why it would be warmer:
1)because the memory foam is too deep, so that you will sink deeper into it. I know you say that you don't feel like you are sinking that far into it, but you must be otherwise it isn't memory foam.
    2) because it is made from memory foam on top of reflex foam. This prevents air circulating under the memory foam to dissipate the heat.

If the memory foam is 85kg, and is 9cm deep, then it WILL be difficult to change position. Otherwise someone is telling porkies about the spec.

    Thanks Mama_Mia,

I appreciate you answering my questions. We do really want the Ergoflex, as everywhere I research them, I read nothing but glowing reports. Out of all the info I've read, and companies I've spoken to, they do also seem to be far more informative, honest and credible - It would however be nice to try before you buy...

If you had done lots of research you would also have found lots of negative reports. Unless you have been reading false reviews that have been posted by the company. This is quite common on review sites.

If you were so keen on Ergoflex then why didn't you just buy one rather than asking for advice?

The heat factor does worry me for the reasons mentioned, but I can't see it being such a big problem for us to use a lower tog duvet if that evens things up.

It is what is underneath you that makes more of a difference to your body temperature, rather than the quilt that is on top of you.

I slept on a mattress at a hotel near the begining of the month (when we had the snow). The mattress was so hot that even though we were in an attic room on the top of a hill in the middle of the pennines, I had to turn the radiator off and just had a sheet over me.

Tim, go easy please. MM's kindly taken the time the answer my questions which I appreciate. And with all due respect, I've read this thread throughout for some time now, and understand that whilst you give good advice out on on here, you do also own a bed shop, and tend to recommend the mattresses that you sell - so whilst I also appreciate your time/comments, I have to take them with a pinch of salt, as they're really as impartial as I'd get from any salesman in any bed shop... I'm sure you understand.

I sell almost all types of mattress, but I choose very carefully which brands I sell. So saying that I only recommend types that I sell is rediculous.

You asked for advice, so I gave you 100% honest and impartial advice from my knowledge of the industry. At no point did I advise you to go for any brand or model, post a link to any web site. I use my own name on here, and give general advice about types of beds and mattresses. I don't try to promote anything. The whole reason I started posting in the forums was to tell the truth and correct all the sales hype and gimmicks that you normall get from sales reps.

Why come on here and ask a question about a product that you have obviously already decided to buy. Then only listen to one person who owns one?

It is begining to sound like you and mama_mia are the same person. Neither of you had posted anything in the forums until you both started asking and answering each others questions, and disregarding anything else.
  • can anyone tell me where on earth you can buy King Koil beds. I have just stayed in a hotel equipped with the King Koil Club Class Matress on the bed and it was UNBELIEVABLE

I took a photo of the label so I could look at buying one when I got home and cant seem to find them.

    Cheers

PS I found this thread through a google search for them, it picked up a couple of other people commenting on how good they were!

They are now the same company as Kaymed, so you could try their web site. I'll warn you, they are expensive.
  • Hi Tim, thanks for taking the time to reply. I have just found that website..... but they do not offer that particular matress, are you saying they have been bought out / sold??

I have had a quick read through here as well and you seem like someone who knows what they are on about.... Do you have any experience with this matress?

If they are no more.... what is your current thoughts on the best way to go given how much i liked that particular one (which I believe did not have any of this memory foam stuff in it?)

    Hi Steve.

I'm not sure who bought who out.

Is there any mention of King Koil on the Kaymed web site?

You could try calling Kaymed to see if they can either give you a number to contact King Koil direct. Or if they know which model is similar.

    Regards
    Tim
  • Thats a very good idea!

Any thoughts one a repacement if its not available?

Tim, I was polite in my response to you, yet your response was rather rude and defensive, even aggressive... I don't have to answer to anyone, but if you look back, I said I'd been reading this thread with interest for sometime. The reason I registered and posted, was to ask a direct question to someone that actually owns and uses the ergoflex. I didn't openly ask for advice - I asked a question directly to mama_mia - yet you piped in from nowhere to offer your opinion..?

You asked a question in an open forum. So this generally means that it is an open question.

    MrBruce wrote: »
There has been lots of comment about this mattress on here, but none from anyone that has actually seen one or tried it. By your own admission Tim, you have never used one either... So it's not exactly strange that I would wanted to take the opportunity to ask questions directly to someone that actually has one, is it?

I have never owned most models of mattresses, but I do know mattresses.

There have been both possitive and negative comments about Ergoflex mattresses in the forums.

Had I already decided to purchase this mattress, then I would have done so. However as I stated, we had concerns. This is exactly why I wanted to take this opportunity to ask questions of someone with real experience of it.

And I took the time and effort to answer as someone who hears 1000's of comments from many different people about all sorts of beds and mattresses. So you could call it an expert opinion.

Quite honestly Tim, I can't get away from the fact that you do own a bed shop, so this creates a conflict of interests, and anyone with an ounce of sense would filter your 'impartial' opinion... Let's face it, this site is littered with some very angry people that have initially taken your advice at face value, only then to realise that you were selling the beds you recommended on Ebay... You've even had post removed and been warned by the moderators.

I have never hidden the fact about what I do. The truth is that all the advice I give is 100% impartial. I am also a consumer who hates to see people ripped off by sales hype. At no point was I trying to sell you anything. I was trying to help prevent you making what could be an expensive mistake.

Show me the posts from angry people who have taken my advice???

There are loads of people who sell the same products as me. So the chances of me gaining anything from hours of my time on here would be very slim indeed.

To be honest you are just covering old ground. There are 100's of people on here who have taken my advice, but haven't bought from me. However you forget to mention them at all

    MrBruce wrote: »
Most importantly, you said: If you had done lots of research you would also have found lots of negative reports. Unless you have been reading false reviews that have been posted by the company. What evidence do you to support this? I have found over 100 reviews online alone (including the Telegraph newspaper), only a couple of which were negative... Do you seriously expect me to believe that everyone (over 100 people) are liars, and that you are telling the truth? (Even more difficult to support as you admit you've never actually had one... and own a bed shop that doesn't sell this brand)

How exactly did they dupe the editors of the Telegraph into reccomending it?

You're entitled to your opinion Tim, but this is not your website, and we are also entitled to ours. I'll also forward your comments about the 'fake reviews' to Ergoflex, and see exactly what they make of it - very bold words to use unless you can clearly demonstrate this...

It is a well known marketing tactic used by many companies.

There are even web sites owned by manufacturers that claim to be impartial, but recommend the manufacturers products.........it's the world we live in I'm afraid. You shouldn't be so nieve to think that it doesn't go on.

    MrBruce wrote: »
Feel free to apologise at any time.

For what.........taking my valuable time and effort to try and help someone by being 100% honest, only for them to question my integrity.

Don't listen to any of my advice if you are so paranoid. That's your choice.
