Thanks everyone for your info. I looked on ebay and found someone selling what I wanted.

  • Well a few days ago I placed our order for a king size La Romantica Madrid mattress with Bedlum Beds and we've just received notification that delivery will be Saturday afternoon :j :j :j

Having dithered for a while before placing our order, I just missed an earlier delivery to this area or we'd have got the mattress even quicker

Anyway, so far everything's been very straightforward so the next time I post here I'm hoping to report a satisfactory delivery and most important of all, a jolly good night's sleep!!

Not sure why my post has been put in here its going to get loss in the masses. SOme people wont think to look in the matress forum to answer questions will they.

If its in the main forum there may be someone who has bought one and can answer my question rather than it being merged into one big thread.

  • Hi
Well I am well confused after reading this thread!
We are after a new double mattress and looking for a recommendation!

I was on the point of buying a La Romantica Madrid from Eades. Bordon as there just down the road

However I am a very good thermal heater, realised memory foam may not be for me! Just had some friends buy a memory foam toped mattress and that was there complaint, (well the male complaint) it’s to hot! Wake up in a sweat
So I guess pocket spring, but which one????? Obviously want the best value for money
We are both tall and 14 to 15 stone my wife has had long tearm lower back problems which have worsened recently, and as our cheap old mattress has just about had it we need a new one. But what speck and which one?? I realey need to know what the top recommendation might be for us
    PM recommendations welcome!
    Thanks Gordon

Actually this is the best thread to ask any questions relating to beds and mattresses.

In answer to your original question. Ikea beds are continental sizes, and the continental king isze is 5'3" x 6'6". A UK king size mattress is 5' x 6'6".

Ahh.. Finally someone on his thread that actually has the ergoflex!

Hi Mama Mia, we've been looking at one of these (and others) since the New Year but we're hesitant to 'jump in' as you can't try them in the shops.

Please could you tell me how you find it? I'm 15 stone and over 6ft, and my wife is a tiny 8st. I'm worried that we'll end up with the 'see-saw' problem we have currently, where I get nagged to death if I go to bed later than her, and my wife's worried about it getting too hot, as she's going through 'that' period in her life if you know what I'm saying. Is it also true that you get stuck in one position and have to wrestle out of a hole to turn over?

If temperature is a problem then ergoflex might ne be a good option. You would be better off going for pocket sprung/memory foam, but with proper fulll size pocket springs rather than the smaller reflex foam encapsulated type. This is so that air can circulate through the spring layer.

Also the memory foam needs to be 2" deep. If it is too deep then you just sink into it which can engulf you and make you too hot.

You won't get the seesaw action with full size pocket springs.

One thing I would say is that at first we used it with a quilted mattress protector on top, but found that it felt quite firm - too firm to be honest. As soon as we removed this the experience was improved ten fold

That's because memory foam needs your body heat to react with it and soften it. If you use a mattress protector that is too thick then it will insulate and prevent your body heat reaching the memory foam and allowing it to mould to your body.

Although the Ergoflex suites you mama_mia, it wouldn't be ideal for many people (especially people who don't like to be too warm in bed). This is down to the density and the depth of the memory foam. Ergoflex even admit on their site that their mattresses were influenced by Tempur. It might be worth remembering that Tempur came out bottom in the Which magazine report.

There are two main things wrong with the design on the Ergofelx, and this may be why they receive very mised reviews. The density of the memory foam is 85kg, which although giving excellent support, has a very slow recovery rate. Also the depth of the memory foam is 3.5" which is far too deep, and can engulf you making you too hot. The slow recovery combined with the very deep memory foam can leave you in a mould, which can make it very difficult to change position in bed.

I really think that manufacturers should stop comparing to Tempur, and should concentrate on making mattresses to optimum specifications.
