I bought a seriously comfortable super-king mattress from

    http://www.mattressnextday.co.uk

Th emattress didn't arrive the next day however! The guy in the warehouse cut the mattress when he was moving it and it was the last one....they did deliver a replacement at a £50 discount. So I paid £250 in all.
    What was the mattress called?

The mattress will be pocket sprung 1000 (minimum) with memory foam one side (La romantica lovell is a possibility) so would I lay a peg board on just a slatted base or sprung slats also (would that not stop the sprung slats from doing their job?)

Peg board is very flexible which is why I suggest it for both types of slats, so it won't cause any problems.
  • Can anyone recommend Vi- Spring ?

Our local bedshop has a tradtional bedstead mattress and was very comfortable (in medium tension).

    King Size - £ 630.

Sounds OK to me , I paid more than that for my 12 year old Relyon double....
  • Hi I have purchased a metal kingsize bedstead along with a 1200 pocket spring memory foam topped mattress. I have just read about 'pegboards' to put on the slats as it protects the springs in the mattress. Should I be worried?

    This the bedstead

    and this is the mattress

I have paid for both and just waiting for delivery of them this week so just curious if I should be looking at a 'pegboard' or not?

    Thanks for looking.

Whilst we're on the subject, has anyone found a supplier of pegboard ? I've searched B&Q, Wickes, Buildbase, Jewsons - all to no avail. I can get hold of plain hardboard easily enough, but I'd rather not spend an afternoon drilling hundreds of holes !

Hi, this is a message for Tim. Tim, Not sure if you have already covered this in any of the 99 pages before, have read most of them so apologies if you need to repeat yourself, but can you please let me know if La Romantica mattresses are from the company La Romantica Beds Ltd. I wanted to find out if they supplied to any bed companies in my area (Berkshire) so I could try before I bought online. I emailed them to find out, however they have not replied. I then realised that they did not show the madrid or the other La Romantica mattresses discussed on this forum on their website, so I am a bit confused.

I would appreciated it if you could clarify, as this would save me time chasing possibly the wrong company. If they aren't not the same company are you allowed to let me know the contact number for the right La Romantica.

Thanks in advance, and well done for all the help you have given.

I never realised buying a mattress was so complicated. The last one I bought was about 20 years ago....Must have been a good one cos it is only now giving me problems
Treat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.
  • Hi Tim,

I`d be really grateful if you could answer these Qs:

    1) I understand the LR Madrid has tufts on each side unlike most other memory foam + pocket spring mattresses - why is this?
    2) I know the 5 ft LR Madrid has 1000 pocket springs, but waht about the super king?
    3) If the LR Madrid is such a good bed, how come it only comes with a 2 year manufacturer warranty whereas other mattresses come with a 5yr guarantee?

Thx I really appreciate this thread.

I'm afraid you have just been a victim of the sales reps bulls##t. It is quite common that if they are asked about something that they don't sell, then they will make it up as they go along.

The truth is that it is not old technologhy, but is actually new. Memory foam reacts with your body heat to soften and mould to your body. So on the bottom of the mattress the memory foam is cold, and very firm.

Your best bet might be to find a seller on the UK mainland who uses a courier who will ship to Ireland. Just make sure that if the courier damages the mattress, then a replacement will be delivered at no extra cost to you.

    Hi Tim,
Thanks for reply...........however I am finding it hard to find stores in England who sell pocket sprung, memory foam, double sided mattress, never mind ship them to Ireland.

Would really really appreciate if anyone know who does this.

It isn't essential to have holes in it, a platform top divan base doesn't. I just think that if you can get peg board then it's better.
