I fancy this one but would be grateful of people's opinions. It's a lot to spend on a mattress.....
Thanks!0 -
thanks so much for this thread, very helpfull, especially to those like Tim who post alot to help people.
I was wondering if anyone could comment on which would be the best out of these two mattresses:
Kozeesleep Pocketmaster 1100
Relyon Matisse - '1000' Pocket Spring Mattress
they are both the same price (within £10). The Relyon has side stitching which i've heard help keep the edges of the mattress firmer.
is there much difference between them? which would you pick?0 -
I'd probably buy a cheaper supportive mattress from a local bed store, so you can try it out in the shop. Or test the branded ones in the local shop and try to get a better price either by haggling or buying online with a discount code/sale/cashback
Then I would buy a featherbed topper (QVC do good ones on a 30 day trial) to 'lux' it up.
I would say it's worth trying mattresses out before buying. Although M&S would allow returns it would be a major hassle to lug a mattress up and down stairs etc.0 -
Hi
I was wondering if anyone had any experience with the maker Memorize
Was looking at this one in particular:

We're looking at a new mattress, king size, budget, will be straight on the floor (don't ask!), I suffer with lower back pain when on a mattress
thanks for any help!0 -

King Koil are supposed to be a good make.
While I respect your point of view, I can only imagine that the group Silentnight, Rest Assured etc sell many many thousands of beds every year whereas you sell a much lower volume of brand X so a few hundred unsatisfied buyers of the bigger brand would statistically be expected on the basis that a small percentage of mattresses may develop faults or a small percentage of buyers will make the wrong choice in the first place ?
I had a Miracoil mattress a while back, and while I would not particularly recommend them nor would I buy another one, I would not write off a very large portion of the beds available on the market as they are owned by the same group. I would also suspect that many of the miracoil units are damaged by people turning the mattress and allowing it to twist and become damaged which is what led to the demise of ours.
Like I said before, residents of Northern Ireland have little choice but to buy the "big" brands or those made by them for the "Bed" shops as the only alternative is to risk spending a considerable amount of money on a product they cannot try out first and could quite possibly be damaged by mishandling due to the delivery goons.
What I would suggest is that Trading Standards should tke a long hard look at the marketing methods used by bed dealers, the rrp is a joke and bears more resemblance to an entry in a telephone directory than the true value of a bed. Having spent a couple of days recently trying a few beds and comparing prices I would say that if you find a bed you like in Sleepmasters or Dreams then go to a smaller local firm and you will get it for 50-60% o the price with a bit of haggling.
I have not made a final decision yet, but from my shopping around it will most likely be a 1200-1400ish pocket sprung with either memory foam or latex top on one side for around £600 with sprung base and drawers because they seem pretty comfortable, reasonably priced and available locally. I expect it to last 4-5 years and anything else will be a bonus so thats less than 40p a day.0 -

You won't get anywhere near as low a price by buying from a shop, although there is the advantage of being able to try it out. However if you buy from someone with a satisfaction guarantee this takes away the risk. Call them first to ask advice, as it is in their interest to sell you the right mattress the first time.
Stay away from pillow top mattresses, they are one of the worst gimmicks in the bed business. They feel very comfortable in the shps when they are new, but they are usually loose fillings that can move about leaving you sleeping in a hollow. The also make the mattress non turn which means it won't last as long.
As for lugging the mattress up and down stairs. Check with the seller to see if they have two divers and can take it to and from the bedroom.0 -

And if that was the case then statistically I would have heard that a far higher percentage were happy with their Silentnight group mattresses. Try doing a forum search.I had a Miracoil mattress a while back, and while I would not particularly recommend them nor would I buy another one, I would not write off a very large portion of the beds available on the market as they are owned by the same group. I would also suspect that many of the miracoil units are damaged by people turning the mattress and allowing it to twist and become damaged which is what led to the demise of ours.
The Miracoil type spring system was never exclusive to the Silentnight group, it was just their trade name for their own marketing. The same type of spring system was also used by many other manufacturers. Most of them have now stopped producing that type of spring system due to very poor reliability, and the spring noise.
Although most complaints were about the Miracoil system, it was only about 60%. There were complaints about the whole range.
I am often told that peoples previous mattress only lasted one to two years, and I allways ask what the make and model was. The fact is that there is one name that crops up 90% of the time, but only about 60% of those are the Miracoil system.
So I wouldn't blame yourself for damaging the mattress. It would have lasted far less if you hadn't turned it.Like I said before, residents of Northern Ireland have little choice but to buy the "big" brands or those made by them for the "Bed" shops as the only alternative is to risk spending a considerable amount of money on a product they cannot try out first and could quite possibly be damaged by mishandling due to the delivery goons.
There is actually a mattress thread in the Northern Ireland section which mentions quite a few sellers. Many of these don't just sell brand names. What I would suggest is that Trading Standards should tke a long hard look at the marketing methods used by bed dealers, the rrp is a joke and bears more resemblance to an entry in a telephone directory than the true value of a bed. Very true. The bed industry (probably many others also) is full of sales gimmicks.I have not made a final decision yet, but from my shopping around it will most likely be a 1200-1400ish pocket sprung with either memory foam or latex top on one side for around £600 with sprung base and drawers because they seem pretty comfortable, reasonably priced and available locally. If you can't get two sided pocket sprung with memory foam, then I would recommend pocket sprung only. A good quality pocket sprung mattress if looked after and turned on a regular basis should last a good 10 years.0
