    Hi Old Timer
Maybe I can shed a little light of this situation for you.
I used to be part of a very highly recognised UK Brand (company) responsible for importing Mattresses into the UK. Some of our top selling Mattresses was the Water Latex type. In a nutshell a water latex mattress is simply a synthetic version (man made material) of real Latex. The touch and feel, even the response is almost identical to that of a natural latex sleeping product. The chemicals used to make this synthetic foam latex material are in fact all water based.
    Hence the name ‘Water Latex’
The synthetic version will most definitely outlive real latex and the guarantee offered with such a mattress should be fairly long (5-10 years). Hope this helps. PS, if you don’t fancy a Memory Foam Mattress then this is definitely a good second option for you to investigate and try out.

You wouldn't be the member cozy-sleep who had their post deleted would you by any chance?
  • Although a regular viewer of both the main website and the forum, I have never made a post before so apologies if I am not following any form of etiquette.

We bought the bed shown on the link below along with a "Silent Night" mattress a few years ago. The bed itself seems to be holding its own and is relatively sturdy but the mattress has had it and our backs can take no more. When my wife has the bed to herself, she can roll into my side, the dip is that bad.

Hence, we want to buy a good mattress to enjoy some blissful sleep. I started reading this thread and seemed convinced enough to go for one of the memory foam mattresses at the online shop mentioned on the very first post on page 1, I read a few pages more and decided a Pocket Sprung Memory Foam Mattress was the way forward until I read a few pages more to find pocket sprung are no good with slatted beds. 11 pages in - I'm now confused.

Tim is obviously the Oracle on this subject - what is the best mattress for a slatted bed or should I change the whole shabang and change my bed too?

Considering we spend almost half of every day in our beds and you can't put a price on good sleep, I would love to say money is no object but within reason I wouldn't mind paying a bit more for something special.

Thank you in advance for any advice anyone can offer me
  • Having spent all night reading as much of this thread as I can, I have decided I would like to get a La Romantica matress, either Madrid or Venice.

I am living in Dublin, but will be in Belfast in next couple of weeks so thinking if I could get one up there I could save myself a few quid.
Does anyone know where these are sold either in Belfast or Dublin. I would like to try them out before buying.

Thanks to all for the great advice, especially Tim.

  • No, why would you suggest that?

I can understand there is a possible problem with the miracoil system in Silent Night beds, but what possible justification can there be for condemning every bed made by any company owned by the same group ?

Sealy and Rest Assured make ranges not using miracoil such as pocket sprung and memory/reflex foam so what is wrong with these ?

Living in Northern Ireland, we are pretty much tied to buying from the big names from bed "specialists" or furniture stores as there are no quality alternatives and one online retailer quotes £120 for delivery of a "quality" bed that I have never heard of ???

PS ... I stay in a lot of hotels and the most comfortable mattress I have ever slept on was King Koil Club Class mattress

I only pass on comments that I have heard from 100's of unhappy users. I have only ever heard a couple of people praising them, and they bought theirs 20 years ago.

King Koil are supposed to be a good make.

Are you refering to all Sealy and Rest Assured beds then, no matter what they are made of? I know from experience to avoid Silentnight, but didn't realise about the others.

We're looking for a Super king, Pocket sprung (1200 or 1400) probably with a Latex layer (or possibly memory foam) layer. Any suggestions of retails/where to look?

Could anyone help with the following...
    • Which is the better base - sprung slats or a divan?
    • Are the platform divans with draws of inferior quality to the sprung divan type?
    • One seller said that turnable mattresses have to be turned every week for the first month, then monthly - is this true?
I was looking at the Rest Assured Latex beds
    http://www.restassured.co.uk/downloads/specifications.pdf
And had favored the Sanctuary Essence, Pocket Latex Bellini, and the Pocket Latex Puccini. I was heading towards the cheaper one, the Puccini.

Could i have some opinions on the specific stats of the aforementioned??

And then i found this one on sale and thought it looked like really good value - http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/6601726/c_1/1%7Ccategory_root%7CHome+and+furniture%7C10197552/c_2/2%7Ccat_10197552%7CBeds%7C10197645/c_3/3%7Ccat_10197645%7CSuper+kingsize+beds%7C10197664.htm

Am i completely off the mark??:o
