At least these places publish their limitations, Its very difficult in the main to find the guarantee specifications for many companies. for instance I can find no information widely available for La Romantica.

And you won't find any for most manufacturers.

It appears that Tempur and Ergoflex actually expect you to get indentations, so they are trying to wriggle out of it by saying that 1" is acceptable.

It is usually the reflex foam that breaks down, so it could be that they expect an indentation that is actually caused by the reflex foam layer under the memory foam.

It's made by Hyder, who are fairly low down as far as quality goes. Also if you look at the depth of the quilting it is very shallow. On better quality mattresses you will notice that the tufts are far deeper into the mattress indicating that the quilting is deep.

You don't have to just look for a listing for a small double (4') mattress. Most sellers can supply either 4' or 4'6" usually at the same price.
  • Well, I thought I'd chip in and after doing research and testing various mattresses in shops, I've bitten the bullet and placed my order online. I've gone for a King Size La Romantica Venice, with a sprung divan base - can you guess where i've bought it.. :)

I shall give an opinion once it arrives!

I'm looking forward to getting rid of my Ikea rubbish bed. I made the mistake of getting my last two with them and they seriously do not last - first was a pocket sprung that lasted 3 years, and this one I am replacing was a full foam with memory top lasted a year and half. I hope for better luck now I'm going for a divan style rater than slatted bed frame!

And on an additional note, many thanks to Tim who has been excellent at answering my questions pre-purchase!

    Matt.

I was thoroughly bored but it turned into an obsession this bed thing, I went from a budget of £400 for a mattress and had my mind set on a pocket sprung one. In the end I went for a high end (I sincerely hope, Tim? ;-)) coil spring one as I couldn't justify spending £500+ on a pocket and I couldn't find any for less here that I could try before buy. All the brands that were recommended here seemed to be taht expensive fora a King.. I went into a London bed shop sporting a certain light blue branding and as it was all getting a bit too much and I needed to buy a bed I was lured in by their special offer.. Found this bed with this mattress and got a nice price as well.
The bed will be delivered on the 21st of Jan so I still have no way of know ing how well I'll sleep in it but anything will be better than the futon mattress I'm on at the moment.. Jioke aside, I liked the feel of it in the shop, the beds seem well made and the mattresses are manufactured for them by an independent (I asked).

Finally I'd like to thanks everyone for sound advice (especially Tim & the reverend). Good luck in your quest for a good night's sleep!
