    Hi
I need a new mattress for my oak bed with wooden slats. The gap between the slats is 2 1/2cm. I am looking at a pocket sprung with memory foam. Does it have to memory foam on both sides? Is pocket sprung with no foam suitable. I am looking for medium - firm comfort.

If it's 2.5cm (1") then it is suitable for pocket sprung mattresses. However if you are going for pocket sprung with memory foam, then the main reason to get one with memory foam on both sides is to increase the life of the mattress by turning it.

I hate to dig up such an old thread but I also bought a snugmattress memory foam mattress from ebay and we are extremely pleased with it. We've had it for 6 months now. The mattress and service were excellent.

ok so i'll try a again, looking at these

    http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/S29849790

the 160 x 200cm one will fit a king mattress (150 x 200cm) not that bitheed about the little gaps at the side.

Will be slatted bed and am not sure on size between so hopefully will be getting pocketsprung one. Am i on the right lines so far if so can anyone reiterate ones that have been given the thumbs up on here? LA romantica? After medium firm one i think.

    ANything ive missed?

The base on this bed is slatted. I know it is possible to buy slats separately from Ikea, but I'm not sure how they attach to their beds. Does anyone know if it is possible to add extra slats with an Ikea bed?

If you can add extra slats, and if you were to go for a pocket sprung only mattress, then you should close the gaps up to 1".

If you go for a pocket sprung mattress with memory foam on both sides, then they are OK with gaps up to 3".

you can add slats but probably a bit of a chore i think the slats are less than 3" apart so the memory foam one sounds like the ticket. Have about £300-£400 for mattress is this enough for a "good" one? Can anyone reccommend one if not ill email.

    thanks,

£300-400 should be fine for a decent memory foam mattress. With it being mem.foam the slat gap is less critical as long as it's a) mem.foam both sides, and b) not 6" gaps ;)

    thanks,

You won't get a two sided pocket sprung/memory foam mattress for that price, so you may have to close the gaps to 1" to be able to use a pocket sprung only mattress.

If you can't add extra slats then you can lay a sheet of peg board over the slats.

All looks good, and under budget, but don't know much about Joseph...

I don't know much about Joseph apart from they seem to be sold by quite a few bargain basement bed shops. However that could be just their budget models.

You need to find out the density of the memory foam.

It appears to be non turn which won't last as long, but you would need to check.

It does say 2.5" NASA (:rotfl:) high density mem.foam but mentions nothing about turn or not either way
