  • We've ordered the kingsize bedstead but I don't know the slat spacing, I just assumed the mattresses they sell will be suitable for the bed. Do you know if they make their own mattresses or are they made by someone else?

The 2200 should be for a king size not the super king size.

Yet again, over priced. Also Relyon are far better quality than Sleepeezee.

How firm do you normally like your bed??

Some stores don't state the density of the memory foam in their mattresses because it shows the lower density ones to be be lower quality. You should be looking at 60 to 70kg per m3.

If you like a soft mattress then memory foam won't suit you, and you should go for pocket sprung only.

You can make even better savings than that on line, but check the returns policy carefully.

Not really, although most quality mattresses are at least 9.5" deep.

2" of memory foam is best, but you can go up to 2.5".

Yes there is a difference between Memory Foam and Latex, you should try both out in a shop to see which you prefer.

Thanks Tim for all your advice. We like a medium to firm bed, certainly not soft so want a platform top base rather than pocket sprung. our local independent has the relyon bed with 1500 springs (in a king size) for £1100 so we are going to look at that at the weekend. I dont know if you are allowed to guess how much profit is on the average bed as i will try and knock that down a bit too. i didnt ask if it included delivery so would guess it doesnt. just feel happier trying it out first.

also, do you know if anyone does 5 1/2 foot beds as the superking will look v big in our room but king isnt quite big enough!!

    thanks again

To be honest I'm not sure who makes them.

If it is a two sided pocket sprung mattress then they shouldn't be selling it for a slatted base. They may tell you that it is suitable to get a sale, but it won't last half as long.

This appears from what they say to be an entry level pocket sprung mattress, so is over priced even at the discounted price.

Many bed stores have at least a 400% mark up.

You can get 5'6" beds specially made. However stay with the independents as bigger brands chaege the earth.
  • Hi, This could be me being rather dim, but is La Romantica manufactured by Millbrook, looking for a 5ft mattress, so is Venice the divan and mattress or just the mattress. However just reading the latest messages this is to go on a Julian Bowen bedstead, so does that mean I cannot have a memory foam top and bottom? Thank you

La Romantica is it's own brand, and ASFAIK they are an independant manufacturer. Millbrook are another company entirely. You can get a 'Venice' divan set or just the mattress that would match as seperates. Im not sure about what the spec is for the Julian Bowen bedstead, if you can post a link it would help. Memory foam is fairly universal in its use though, and can be used on divans, slats, sprung etc...

Thankyou for explaining that because I rang The Mattress Man who said they hadn't heard of it, and suggested it was a shop's own brand, they recommended Relyon with 1497 pockets,

Following threads I believe that La Romantica would be the best for us.

It says that the base is slatted, which will be fine with a memory foam mattress as long as it's a turnable one. If only single sided the springs inside may push through eventually if the slats are more than about 3" apart.

MattressMan dont knwo who La Romantica are?! Not much product knowledge then

  • Hi
I need a new mattress for my oak bed with wooden slats. The gap between the slats is 2 1/2cm. I am looking at a pocket sprung with memory foam. Does it have to memory foam on both sides? Is pocket sprung with no foam suitable. I am looking for medium - firm comfort.
