The Myers Hollywood appears to be only about 8" deep going by the picture, although photos can give the wrong impression. It is only a firm open coil sprung mattress which appears to be around middle of the range. You should be able to get a 10" deep similar mattress for around £100 less if you shop around on line, as long as you don't insist on going for big brands.
As for Sealy, you do know that they are part of the same company as Silentnight now don't you?
Would you recommend a different one.0 -
I have looked at matressman and liked the sealy backcare for £199 but don't want to buy a mattress before buying, we did that at argos and had to return because it was too soft, i am struggling to find a sealy the same, they are all so different, and we don't have many bed shops within a close travelling distance and my OH can't sit in the car for too long at the moment.
Would you recommend a different one.
Ypu said in your first post in this thread that you were replacing your Silentnight that isn't very old because it has to go. I presume that this is because it is defective?
As I said Sealy are now owned by the same company as Silentnight, and from what I have heard from many of my customers, they now also suffer from similar reliability problems.
If you want a good mattress at a good price it is worth staying away from the big brands, as it appears that many of them have dropped their quality in order to cut production costs.
If you visit a bed store to see what type of mattress you like, and also how firm, then call an on line seller who should be able to help you make the right choice. If you make sure that you can return it if you don't like it, then you won't have anything to worry about.
After looking on Silentnight's web site I noticed that if you try to buy on line through them then it actually diverts you to mattressman. So it appears that they are both connected in some way. So if you do decide to use them, then don't let them pressure you towards a Silentnight, Sealy, or Rest Assured (all the same company).0 -

They may be ok, but the price just makes me suspicous0 -
Tim,
I am after a metal bed, silver preferably. I want a strong bed, as my other bed broke and it had wooden slats. I would prefer a metal frame underneath as opposed to wood, but in Dreams yesterday the sales assitant said if they are curved slats they will be okay.
I am after a double bed, but if cheap enough I would go for a king.
You say to stay away from the big chains, but where do I go? Please just say, it wont be seen as advertising co you are not spamming and persistantly tlking about it. Right admins?0 -

Im pestering them daily, but getting no real responces just yet. Is there a higher authority that you know of Tim which I may be able to get involved to lean on them a bit?!:A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. It is really a bit of a minefield. It may just be that your old bed was poor quality, or had a manufacturing defect.
You usually find that metal beds with metal slats tend to be low quality childrens beds, and these would be more likely to break than wooden slats.
If it was just the slats that broke on your old bed, then you can get more slats.
As for Dreams saying that curved slats were stronger, it sounds like they are just trying to get you to go for the most expensive. They didn't even get the name right, as they are actually known as sprung slats. The individual sprung slats tend to be quite strong, but it tends to be the middle support bar that can cause problems. So try and go for one that has a fith leg in the middle.
Try Googling silver metal beds.0 -
They have changed the customer service operator dealing with my complaint, which took some time to organise, and the new girl's a bit dappy (can't read a publisher file, and said, and I quote 'Can you change it to something called a jpeg, if you understand what that is...'?!?

Do you mean the bed store or Silentnight?
Ask to speak to a supervisor. If they are being difficult just tell them that if they don't put you though to the supervisor, then as soon as you get off the phone you will be calling Trading Standards. Also say that the dip in the mattress is causing you back pains, and that if it isn't sorted soon you will be claiming for your back also.0 -
Tim, it was an Argos bed, and it was the slats that broke. But it was poorly fitted by me and my dad. Also there is no support in the middle, just thin slats across the bed.
So I guess, sprung slats are the better option. I thouht a metal frame would be really storng beds?
I just want a bed that will last for a while! A strong one too, no creaking, this bed creaks- so annoying!
Will try googling it, cheers.0 -

I'm afraid that's what you get from Argos. The only things that are cheap at argos are either cheap quality or they are reduced to clear. I used to sell a good quality metal bed for £190, but Argos charged £349 for the same bed.
Don't blame yourself and your dad. If the bed had been well made then it still shouldn't have broken.
If you google it you should find some on line stores who are far cheaper than the high street shops. Just make sure that you can return it if you don't like it.0
