Thought i was getting to grips with this mattress info and id read all your messages but ive just come accross something thats completeley put me out that is not being able to use a heated underblanket with the pocket spring /memory foam ive really got used to having the underblanket in the winter so that would be a blow ! How much warmer is the memory foam than ordinary mattress (thinking about those heating bills and keeping costs down as getting into a warm bed means the central heating can be really low ) Can the underblanket really not be used ?
Memory foam uses your body heat to soften up and mould to your body. If you use an electric blanket then it will soften the whole surface of the mattress rather than just where you are in contact, and won't give you the support it is designed to. However memory foam feels warmer to the touch than normal mattresses, so you don't get that bit when you get into bed and the sheets are freezing cold. So you won't need an electric blanket as long as you use flanlette sheets in winter instead of starchy cotton ones.0 -
Slightly off topic but I bought this bed last year. Its been the most uncomfortable bed Ive ever had(and Ive had £50 beds from local paper) plus its falling to bits.Just thought Id post in case anyone is considering buying one....DON`T.

Thanks, RockGypsy, knowing what to definitely avoid is very useful info.
Thanks too to Tim, from many of us I am sure: I've learned so much about beds from Tim on this thread that I now feel much more confident of buying something good at a reasonable price. In our case it'll probably be a turnable, 1400 or 1600 pocket spring with a non-foam filling. Just need to find time for the two of us to get to a bed shop and decide what firmness is right - been busy trying to organise a holiday at New Year.
Tim's advice that bad backs need firm if you go for open spring, but soft pocket spring is fine for backs resolved a big dilemma for us. A softish pocket spring we think it'll be.
Is the Kozeesleep Duchess hard, firm or soft, Tim? The Duchess gets good write ups and I've seen it at good prices from online sellers and on eBay.0 -
We desperately need a new mattress, our not so very old silent night has got to go. We like v.firm but not memory and after trawling round all the shops ended up at sleepmasters, Liked the Myers Hollywood Backcare at £249 and sealy regal ortho at £399. Myers is more our price range , can't really stretch to the sealy, any kind person got any recommendeation between the 2. Both are 9 on the sleepmasters firmness scale, and tried an 8 but too soft! Thanks in advance.0

Hi.
The Myers Hollywood appears to be only about 8" deep going by the picture, although photos can give the wrong impression. It is only a firm open coil sprung mattress which appears to be around middle of the range. You should be able to get a 10" deep similar mattress for around £100 less if you shop around on line, as long as you don't insist on going for big brands.
As for Sealy, you do know that they are part of the same company as Silentnight now don't you?0 -
But have been eavesdropping on this thread with interest.
Tim, do you think that this cheap and cheerful number on ebay represents value for money?

Many thanks, L.0 -

To be honest with you I don't know. I wouldn't have thought it was possible to sell a good quality pocket sprung mattress at that price, so I assume that either the quality is very low, they are seconds, or they are bankrupt stock0 -
I bought one from matress 24 online and saved around £150 including next day delivery.Lets get this straight. Say my house is worth £100K, it drops £20K and I complain but I should not complain when I actually pay £200K via a mortgage:rolleyes:0

Thanks Tim. Thought it was probably too good to be true.0
