awesome, sounds like you're having a really good time of it and doing well with the whole, changing the way you think about and percieve money sort of thing  you'll deffo have to post some pictures of when you've made them!!
I got paid for a job I did with my friend and my bf today so I've sent them their shares of it but we seem to have been paid quite a bit extra! I'm going to hang onto it because Ill probably get asked for it back soon but untill I do it might as well earn me some interest! (its only like, £60 extra but hey) and Im sorting out my co-op account this weekend and just trying to get everything a bit clearer so that I can relax and be more organised. Just stuff like tidying my room and filing my bank statements but hey.
I'm also sorting out more stuff for my carboot sale which ill do next week and yeah, need to get the bf to do some more farm work and chase up some tax back monies.....he's such a pain!

I'm hoping they turn out well! The pattern i'm using is a tiny bit too small because of the size changes since the 60s. So I'll need some extra help with them! Looks like I'm roping my mum in to help ;)

Fingers crossed you get to keep that extra cash! Good luck with your car boot too! It's weird how cleaning your room can make you feel so much better about it all. I did mine today and i'm feeling happy.

Bad news! There is a slight chance I'm on topshop online and a very nice dress is in my size and my mind is saying 'noo!' but my heart is saying 'YES take it!' i really shouldn't let myself on there. How do i block these things?!

Aww thanks, hope I can keep it too!

anyway miss Cinny, checked out page one by accident and tell me why you decided to cancel your holiday plans!!?
Also looked at your targets and they look good, i think you could save more though if you got into a few online things and got vouchers and stuff to use. Do you do any surveys or clicky websites? I do a few and like, when I get a voucher from somewhere, when I spend it instead of cash, the cash goes into my savings (sorry if I haven't worded that very well!)
    how were the sandwiches?

oh yeah and the dress, just dont buy it, use it as a kick up the bum to get looking at your patterns and cutting some bits out.
If you;re not to sure about the sizes, make a muslin first using whatever cheap you have :)
    - I'm not very good at all this but Im doing a degree in textiles so I should be able to help maybe!?!
  • right, first post! Cinny for some reason this was the first thread I read and in my opinion you're far advanced in terms of all otehr 17 year olds in terms of money saving. Most have just left school (16 years of not working, therefore no money) and just wanna blow what they earn. I'm 22 and have done exactly that. I've had a good time since I was 18 (left college) but have no savings. I had saved nearly £3k but bought a car and had a loan to pay for the rest. When I paid off the car I bought a motorbike as well. I finally now am in the position that everything is paid off. I have no doubts and thoguht to myself "why haven't you saved anything"? In the 2 months I've been coming on here I've changed current account, got 2 new credit cards, set up 3 savings accounts, even if some of them are just to take advantage of the loopholes. I honestly think I've sorted myself out now. Any money I spend I do so via topcashback.co.uk and my 5% cashback credit card so I'm earning money twice on everything I spend. I have also referred 4 people for my current account with A&L and will be shortly receiving £25 for each of them! I have managed to put away £1,800 in the last 2 months and plan on saving at least £500 a month. I won't see most of the savings I've made in the last 2 months for a year since I made the original changes (now 10 months away) but when I do, I've worked out I've pretty much made enough cashback (this is without interest on the monetary savings) to pay for my 4 day holiday in Poland in October which has cost me £240. It can be done, you just have to be savvy! If ever you need the support you know where to come. There's good news stories all around :)

that's a good idea! Thanks :D Didn't manage to do any over the weekend because the BF was over.
We decided to cancel the holiday because 1 we dont think we can spare the money so close to christmas and 2 if we spend more than 3 days together we end up killing each other ;)

I didn't buy the dress in the end! :T Quite glad as yesterday I had to get some new pillows, mine are pancake flat and giving my back problems, and I'm too young too be having those! A new toothbrush, a new mirror and new makeup! (technically I didn't need the last but everything was going gloopy) Starting on my pattern later, with the help of my mum.
  • yeah, my moneysaving is going a bit to pot at the moment as well. I have £120 car tax, my motorbike's indicators have gone and when I've opened it up to fix it myself I realise it's beyond my expertise and it's a mates stag do coming up, need to provide £75 for a day go karting and an evening beer bus. Unexpected things always happen *sigh* oh well. One's necessary, one's for my enjoyment and the other one is just annoying :p

by the way your self restraint is admirable cinny!

Sorry, it means making up the pattern for the dress/whatever out out traditionally muslin (a thin cheap fabric) - or anything cheap and of the same sort of weight (thats what I use anyway!) just so that you dont waste your own good expensive/rare fabric but can adjust the fit/pattern a bit. then you make the changes to your pattern accordingly.
    HTH!

Lol Cinny - I love that you'll kill eachother if you spend more than 3 days together!! Sometimes it is nice to have your own space but I think youd be fine lol. Does make sense to perhaps go away next summer or something though, because Christmas is always a bit rushed for me (dont know if it is for you but hey!) What me and the boy did last year which you might be interested in as a cheap holiday - we went to france. Literally my dad mentioned a cheap ferry he'd seen and 2 days later we booked to go! The ferry from dover was about £30 return (but we had to go at 4am lol!) and we just got a cheap hotel in Lille for 2 nights and went to paris on a whim as well (we didnt stay there because it was very expensive and we had to go home the same day lol - a long day but it was totally worth it) probably cost about £300-£350 between us, including spending money and most of that was on petrol. Just an idea and to say it can be done rather cheaply so don't write the idea off completely!!

I feel your pain! My vespas back indicator has gone, I thought it was the bulb at first but the socket is warped. (I think it's from when my brother backed into it knocking it over)

Really excited about using the pattern, I love how it still has the paperclips on it from the last owner. Fingers crossed I can back into making/customizing my own clothes.
