I was in town yesterday for the first time in ages but I forgot. Frank keeps on bugging me to open one too now so i should get it done soon.

Might end up doing some online spending today, want to get frank yet more bits for christmas.

Got my eye on a game for him for his DS for when we go away, waiting on my £10 amazon voucher now though.

Going on dooyoo, slice the pie and onepoll today. fingers crossed.

It's 3 nights in a (most likely) freezing caravan on the coast of cumbria. Still, it's better than nothing and all we could afford! It was £108 for the caravan and an extra £9 to take our dog. I've bought her a jumper just incase it's really cold. :o

I'm after Professor Layton and The Curious Village for him, but its only on amazon for £55 new and used  so I'll just have to check back and see if it's in stock once I get my voucher.

When it was in stock with amazon it was £25 I think, I'll just be checking there first to see if they have it in once I get my voucher. If not I'll be heading off to play.com or down to woolies for it :D
  • Hi all,

Wow, you're all doing so brilliantly. My money seems to be disappearing all over the place at the moment, my sons have both got Xmas parties coming up so that's my latest spend. Strangely parties for 2 year olds cost twice as much as parties for 14 year olds, it must be the special appearance from Santa that bumps up the price :rotfl: . Anyway I am trying to just be careful with my money but not too strict on myself at the moment as it seems money is going out unexpectedly at all directions at the moment.

Phoned British Gas today to discuss changing to DD (I changed over from a gas prepayment meter previously and was told to leave it for a while then phone with meter readings). The chap I first spoke to was horrible - he wanted to make my dd payments MORE than I was previously paying on the prepayment meter, and when I asked for an explanation about why it was so high I was told that's just the way it is, that's how much I would need to pay and he was right and I was wrong! When I said ok then, cancel dd and I will put the money in my account and get interest and pay bills quarterly he said nastily "in future tell me that beforehand, you're still going to get a letter now"!:( . He just spoke to me like a child and I only wanted an explanation as to why it was so high.

Thanks to my 2 year old keeping me up half the night last night as he isn't well, I was in a particularly sensitive mood today and this person being so nasty really upset me badly. I rang British gas complaints dept to complain about Mr Stroppy, and as soon as the chap at the complaints dept picked up the phone I was suddenly in floods of tears. He must have thought I was a right loony :rotfl: . I wasn't actually upset about the amount I was quoted, just the way I had been spoken to. Anyway this chap was sooooo nice, we renegotiated a dd price (he agreed I was quoted way too much before anyway) and it's all sorted now. It now looks like the saving I have made by having prepayment meter taken out, and getting dd discounts and dual fuel discounts should be around £150 a year. I will be checking my meters weekly and keeping track of what I use and will make damn sure that my dd amount covers it and I prove Mr Stroppy wrong :rotfl:

My 2 year old has gone to his Dads today, so I should get a full nights sleep tonight. Then I have a dentist appointment tomorrow so more money being spent, but it will be worth it to have a nice smile like this :D lol.
Cutting my bills down to size and saving money :j
So far I have reduced my outgoings/increased my savings account balance by: £16.80 a month
Lots more bill-slashing in progress :D
  • Tinkerbel,

Shopping went well thanks. Had an Asda delivery the other day (an hour late!!), and have booked a Tesco delivery for the 10th Dec as I wanted to compare the 2. It was easier to find money-off vouchers for Tesco, and I have a friend who works for them and got me a 10% discount on top so I will probably be using Tesco all the while.

I discovered the cat quite likes Asda's 'Tiger' cat food in foil and it's much cheaper than the stuff she has been until now. If I stick to Tesco deliveries I may have to start making a special trip to Asda once a month just for her food, but it will be worth it. It's been so tough finding food she liked, she was a CPL cat we adopted last year and we tried sooo many different foods with her to find something she would actually eat! We've had lots of cats in the past and she's the only one I have ever known who would literally rather starve than eat tinned food.

Got my 2 Xmas pressies for under £10 each as well. Actually got them from Matalan, which is weird as we have been discussing it here. I am now a Matalan convert, and will be shopping there a lot more from now on!

  • Cinny, have you thought of getting an online savings account?

Dead quick to set up, though you will have to send off (or take into local branch) proof of your id if it's with a different bank to your main account. They often have slightly higher interest rates too.

An online account may not be suitable for what you want (if you want to make over the counter deposits etc) so just ignore me if so! I heard a rumour some people actually prefer going out into the real world and talking to real live human bank employees about their accounts  .

    No way!! :rotfl:

I'll look into it on my dinner break when I'm not making flighting visits to Mr Internet.

Ahh, I have a deep (but mostly covered) love of matalan, They do have some really nice things for christmas, been eyeing them up but I have no one to buy for now! Going there on friday because I need some warm clothes for next weekend.
What the hell was I thinking, a caravan, on the coast, in december?!

Starting my little meal plan for the 4 days. Sausages and smash on friday, pasta bake saturday, chilli on sunday. Haven't got as far as dinners but breakfast is eggs on toast for Frank and jam on toast for me!
    Let the list making begin!:D

Just want to say thank you to tinkerbel and Ziggy for pulling me up on opening a savings account! Just sent of a form for the eSaver with abbey  Better for me than the eSaver direct.
I need regular access to the money in there, vespa insurance, holidays, birthdays ect. I'm going to put £20 in a week then at the start of each month after my phone bill and dogs trust money has come out I'm going to put whatever is left into my savings account leaving my current account with £100 in.

    I think. :D
