Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 9th july. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Morning. Guess what? It's raining again!! Nothing new there is there. I did manage to get the grass cut last night and walk the dog down at Mevagissey before the rain started again.
Day off today. although I will go in for a meeting this afternoon as it's followed by a 3 hour brewery tour. Which is really drink your body weight in beer for £10. Is that binge drinking? I shall probably not get my moneys worth, but it will be a social time.
My son put his American pictures on facebook, so it was nice to see him enjoying himself over there. Alright for some.
Talking of USA here are the recipee's I promised.
You have to have American measuring cups
KEY LIME PIE
Pastry base
1 1/4 cups of plain flour. 1/4 tsp salt. 1/4 marge plus 2 Tbs lard. 4 or 5 Tbs of cold water.
Mix flour, salt and fat together to form fine crumbs, then gradually add cold water to make pastry dough. Chill it in the fridge for 30 mins or so. Roll out and line a 9 inch pie dish. Make fancy edges if you wish. Bake uncovered in a hot oven 230c, gas 8 for 12-14 minutes until golden and leave to cool.
Filling
4 egg yolks, 1/2 cup of lime juice (lemon will work) 1 can of sweet condensed milk.
Heat lime juice in a pan until hot but not boiling. Gradually add 1/4 of the hot lime juice to the egg yolks and stir. Then add the yolk mixture back to the pan and heat on a medium heat for 2 minutes stirring constantly. Let cool.
when cool stir in the can of cond. milk until thick and then spoon in to the pie dish. Chill in the fridge (the pie not you).
Topping
1/2 pint of double cream. 1/4 cup of icing sugar. Small lime. Beat the cream until almost thick, gradually add the icing sugar until stiff. Spread on top of your pie. Grate some lime zest on the top of the cream.
Enjoy. I found this delicious. I will do the beans tomorrow.
Cheers

Morning N9eav and all who cross/follow
The weather here is a lot nicer today and i actually saw the sun coming up over the horizon as i drove to w*rk, it`s amazing how it can make such a difference to how i feel.
For some strange reason i woke up really hungry so i`m afraid my breakfast has already been scoffed so i`ll be looking for something else to eat later.
Tea tonight will be prawn & chorizo paella with garlic bread YUM!
Yesterday afternoon i harvested a huge tub of strawberries from the plants in the garden - i have to say i`m surprised that they are doing so well considering the weather that we`ve had the last few months.
I had a problem with some of the screws for the new green house that was delivered last week - some of them didn`t have any threads on but the nice lady on ebay has posted me some more out and i`ll be able to get on with putting the rest of it up this weekend weather permitting of course:rolleyes:
I`ve just read the last of yesterdays thread so now whilst it`s quiet i`m going to catch up with weezls latest challenge and then do some w*rk:D
Have a lovely day everyone, i`ll pop in later to see how you`re all doing.
SDPlanning on starting the GC again soon0 -
Morning N9eav, Sunnyday & everyone else
Not raining here at the moment but the forcast is bad so no washing today.
Have got quite a nice day planned - Tai Chi this morning, lunch in town and hairdressers this afternoon for a cut and colour - have 20% off voucher for hairdressers which makes it even better.
Downside is will get hardly anything done today but I must wrap up DD's pressies as its her birthday tomorrow.
Off now for a peaceful surf before anyone else gets up.
Have a great day.0 -
Morning everyone,
Been freezing here all day. The wind is blowing as well. Been busy in the kitchen this morning. The marmalade turned out well. Only made 2 jars but was easy to do. After lunch went for a walk & washed my hair. Getting a cut on Friday. Benny escaped while I was out, and then didn't realise he had gone until I got a phone call to ask if I was missing anything. :rolleyes:DH home a bit early so he's added a few more bricks to the makeshift fence under the house. My throat still feels bad, but I'm hoping it won't go any further.
N9eav Thanks for the recipe. Is it eggy tasting at all? 4 yolks seems an awful lot. Chance to make a pav though.
Sunnyday I don't know how you can stand overcast days on end. The sun shining always makes for a brighter day for me too.
Haribo To think as well as missing a boat, you've also missed your car too.
Will pop back later. Hope you all have a lovely day & <hugs> to those that need them. ByeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeDon't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0 -
morning all,
Raining here too  , getting fed up with it now. Off to w**k today, have a lot of finance bits and bobs to do, then its full steam ahead for our works party on Friday night, its a party we are giving to thank the volunteers who help us, ( we are a charity) so we have 85 people coming and its a 'best years of your life party' so each person is celebrating the year they left school. My work mates and I each have to dress up as a teacher, I am being home economics, I can't remember my 'name' at the moment, but will let you know, its a funny one. On friday I have to do the buffet, which I am looking forward to.
Just seen the weather and they have put out a severe weather warning for today, torrential rain
Sausage chips and beans tonight, so nice and easy, last night we had a few runner beans off of next doors plant, very early, smallish ones, but they were delish.
N9eav, thanks for the recipe, I will print it off and make it at a later date.
Aussie hope your sore throat improves xx
Huggles to smoky, pen pin, jayward, anniestar ( and pheobe), and all others in need.
Have good days all xx0 -
Good morning all and welcome back Haribo - we've missed the boat more than once! DH always leaves things until the last moment but he had such a telling-off from me the last time it happened that I hope he's learned his lesson! He's in France now and due back on Saturday - at least that's what his ticket says. Glad you all had a good time but I don't envy you the long drive between the ferry and home - we only live 20 minutes away which is why there is no excuse for us missing the boat!
N9EAV - thanks for posting the recipe - I shall definitely give that one a go!
I made Bounty Balls yesterday; they're setting in the fridge just waiting for the melted choccie bit.
(((Hugs))) to Smoky, PenPin, Mrs Mix - what did the doctor say about your earache? Candygirl and her Dad, AnnieS and anyone who needs them.
Churchmouse - :hello: :hello: :hello:
It's raining here and apparently will for the rest of the day. I am collecting the grandchildren from school this afternoon so I hope it stops by then.
Well, today I have some more paperwork and I also need to do some more wedding favours so I must get myself organised. With DH being home on Saturday I'm starting to panic that I have lazed around too much and not got as much done as I had planned!
Off to have a shower so I'll catch up later.

Hi everyone, I'm a newbie to posting on the forums, usually just read and stock up on tips but thought I'd start to join in. :hello:
I'm having a day off today (flexi) so with the weather being dubious here in Scotland I'm planning a day of productivity at home. Want to start making some draught excluders for winter coming in! Is that too much forward planning?

A rainy morning here........at least the garden will be happy.
one of those days today when i won't have time to sneeze once i get to work, so will be glad when it's over.
the recipe looks fab N9eav - and i bet it has no calories in at all;)
went out for a nice meal last night and for a catch up with a friend - made a nice change; back to pasta tonight - or is it my nephew's fish cakes? i'm rubbish at sticking to the meal plan in the right order! next week i think i'll just put down 7 meals without the days and eat them when i fancy them!
have a nice day,

Hi Kathy :hello:
Macaroon balls are also nice. Not sure if you've had macaroon bars before, but these make nicely into balls. They're made with mashed potato (really) and icing sugar, then coated in chocolate and toasted coconut.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member No 1001 - Proud to be dealing with my debts :cool:0 -
