The Halifax Clarity appears as a very useful card to hold. But that is ONLY if you are not already a Halifax customer!
I have had a Halifax Gold card for many years, spend about £2000 per month on their card and pay it off in full each month and don't exceed my credit limit. I also have a current account with the Halifax with over £10k balance as well as an ISA. I would have expected that I would be classed as a valued and trusted customer! Unfortunately not so!
If you already hold a Halifax credit card and want to change to the Clarity card then stand by for a lot of problems!
To change you don't just ask. You have to cancel your existing card and then apply for the Clarity. You then wait 30-60 days to see if they will accept you for the Clarity card.
There is no guaranty that they will accept you. In fact a marker on my account implies that I will not be accepted for the Clarity so I would end up with no card at all.
I have checked with the other major banks and they all allow you to switch to their other types of cards. This includes Lloyds who also allow you to hold two of their cards.
Halifax is alone on the high street in having such a Draconian and totally customer unfriendly attitude towards their account holders!0 -
Hi
Can anyone please, please advise if it's cheaper to change up currency ( as don't like the card options ) when in Dubai ?
As I plan on travelling there this weekend coming
A friend has told me to change up currency when abroad over there, but I believe this could well be a mistake, as it's like returning Sterling to Dubai after a Arabian has been to the UK !!
The rate therefore should be very poor, surely ??
Also, how can you check each individual rate in a foreign country, unless you speak or understand there language
Any help would be massive
Many, many thanks0 -

Is there a reason why "you don't like the card options"?
You didn't spend much time looking for an answer, did you?0 -

I was an existing Halifax ordinary credit card holder & had no problems getting a clarity card at the time, just a simple request, it was a couple of years ago though, has something changed since?0 -
Hi,
I just read something that had escaped me in the past. The travel cards guide recommends for the Halifax Clarity to send an online transfer to pay the balance before the interest starts accruing.
I've got the Santander Zero, with a hefty 27.9%: does anyone know if it's possible to do the same thing?
Thanks0 -

Yes. Of course. "Hefty" is actually only just over 2% per month.
So even if your payment is credited a week after the ATM withdrawal, that is only 0.5%.

Hi - I have plans to travel to Paris and to take my Mum as a treat and I was wondering what times are the best times to go to get the best prices? I did originally have plans to go October-November however due to the passport delays, our passports are unlikely to arrive before then. Also, if I was to book now it would be expensive especially for the Eurostar and accommodation, so I was wondering when would be the best time to go to Paris for a reasonably affordable trip.
Many thanks

Which I agree with in principle. However, you could have at least posted the right thread/section link for the newbie instead of only pointing her error, don't you think?
(Note: I don't know what the right thread would be - I only intended to be helpful quickly)0
