I went for one of these just before New Year :
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/150336
Basic description is a Fujitsu Siemens Esprimo Mobile V5535, Core 2 Duo T5850 2.16GHz, 2GB RAM 250GB HDD, 15.4" TFT, DVD Supermulti, Vista Home Premium.
It's £369.99 - free delivery if you go for Supersaver delivery which I did. Ordered 27th December 1:00am(ish) and it arrived on 29th anyway!
The Mrs is very happy with it. Unfortunately, forgot to post as I got it - there was a free 1Gb memory upgrade and laptop backpack with it then but it doesnt seem to have that offer anymoreSorry.... It's still not a bad deal though....
It does come with a week of free telephone support for setting up etc. Didnt need it so can't tell you how good that is though.0 -
Flickering_Ember wrote: »:j If you want to look at them instore, in general, then do, but order online as you can use discount codes and get cashback; I used a £10 off code so got my £379 laptop for £369, and I also got £22.14 cashback through Quidco (they no longer work with John Lewis) so in reality, it only cost me about £330 (delivery was also free).
Which comptuer did you buy?
Where did you find the £10 off code as I have been looking for a laptop from John Leiws are there any cashback sites that you can go through as Topcashback doesn't do John Lewis
Many thanksThanks to MSE savings we got to go to Disneyworld Florida.

I got a Toshiba Satellite can't remember model, it was 9 months ago now so I can't comment on discount codes only that you should look on the discount codes thread in these forums and see if there are any current ones, and if you want to find out about cashback, just check via Google; iPoints used to but now don't and Quidco used to but don't any more either. I met someone who works in computer repairs and was told Toshiba are the only brand i the last 9 years he has never had one brought in; they're basically the best there are. Mine's fine and I abuse it and I use it up to 20 hours a day.0 -

It cost £399 and I bought it because I thought the spec was good - 250 gb hard drive and 3 gb RAM with Vista Home Premium installed. I set it up without any problems and it seems, thus far, to be fine.
I was going to post a link to it from the Currys website but its down at the moment
Anyone know if computers purchased via the web (Currys, Tesco) can be returned via the store if some fault is found?0 -
Just asked my friend about what to look for in a laptop, here is his opinion. Anyone got an answer to my last question?Laptop

When choosing a laptop screens should be no smaller than 17" as long time in front of it damages your eyes if smaller.
Processor type Intel® Pentium® dual core processor. Lower processor make the machine very slow.
Cache Level 2 cache 2MB the higher the bitter.
memory 2gb min. The more memory the bitter.
Hard Drive 160gb the lowest to go for.
Graphic Card NVIDIA GeForce are the most stable cards at the moment ATI card are OK. The more Video RAM the bitter.
Other Bits you might think about are:
USB ports
Card readers (make shall that it can read your camera card)
TY link to watch DVD on.
WiFi and Ethernet port (WiFi is best as it's a waste of time in having a laptop).
Bluetooth: Not important but handy. ie linking up your Mobile phone0 -
