  • hi,
I'm interested in this too - especially with the sales coming to an end.
    Thanks
  • I bought a Dell 1545 laptop in Currys last week for my daughter's birthday.

It cost £399 and I bought it because I thought the spec was good - 250 gb hard drive and 3 gb RAM with Vista Home Premium installed. I set it up without any problems and it seems, thus far, to be fine.

I was going to post a link to it from the Currys website but its down at the moment :o
  • Ta. Curry's and PC World sites seem to have been down all day.
  • Hmm I'm pondering buying a laptop at the mo... I would like to buy an extended warantee so I have piece of mind for 2-3 years... I wonder if prices will keep dropping over the next 6 months?....

I read in the current 'Computer Shopper' that a desktop PC priced at £400 a few months ago now cost £450 because of the falling value of the £.
It may well be better to buy now rather than wait!
I'm Glad to be here... At my age I'm glad to be anywhere!!
I'm not losing my hair... I'm getting more head!!
  • :j If you want to look at them instore, in general, then do, but order online as you can use discount codes and get cashback; I used a £10 off code so got my £379 laptop for £369, and I also got £22.14 cashback through Quidco (they no longer work with John Lewis) so in reality, it only cost me about £330 (delivery was also free).

Avoid Acers like the plague, everyone knows of their non-existant customer support and poorly made laptops that break within a year if your very fortunate.

I'm interested to know if this really is the case. Dixons have a couple of Acer laptops around the £400 mark and we were possibly in the market to replace our current laptop.
  • Hi Folks, Just a warning really about 14 months ago I bought an Acer 5100 aspire laptop with all bells and whistles for £500 it has now blown the motherboeard and is too expensive to repair at £300 for a replacement motherboerd.

That is why I like to buy a warantee with a laptop. When I bought a laptop from Dell 3 years ago I bought an extended warantee to take it to 3 years for only £65 in total.
