I bought a HP 530 (Intel Core2Duo 1.6Ghz, 1Gb RAM, 15.4" screen) off Ebay.
Managed to knock the seller down from £300 to £280 cash and saved on delivery by collecting it.
I think it's a really nice laptop. Build quality is excellent for the price. The only minus is the battery time of only a couple of hours. Not a great problem for me.
If you look on the net, it gets great reviews.0 -

thanks for the link - Staples site says its for business cutomers only?? I am guessing that you think this is a good laptop? I though it was better to have core 2 duo processor rather than a dual core - or have I got it the wrong way round?
TF
Yes, Core2Duo is also dual core but a newer version offering better performance and requiring less power. I don't think the older dual core is much slower, though.
Athlon Turion processors are also dual core.
It *is* confusing I admit.0 -

Avoid Acers like the plague, everyone knows of their non-existant customer support and poorly made laptops that break within a year if your very fortunate. My friend had his for about 5 months of an 18 month period where it spent plenty of time at Acers so called warranty department who would hold onto it for months and return it in the same or worse state. They may be cheap for the performance but there is a huge reason why. My 2nd Acer broke yesterday (overheating again) and this makes it 2 faulty acers in 7 months and seen as im in Uni its a bit of a hassle, I had only had this one for a few weeks after I got the other one refunded, luckily Asda are refunding me on my faulty one now.
I think I will opt for a good company, I like the Sony Vaio at play.com and with the RAC code it is a pretty decent price but I may wait a while as there are quite alot of Vaio deals in the past month I have noticed.0
