  • Homespun... I hope you have stopped freaking out now :p

It was just getting someone of authority to sign a photocopy of ID if you are applying for financial help.

If you haven't had to do it, and still got the funding, I really wouldn't panic!

I hope they have a good reason for returning my form (with signature from a teacher) ... it's only taken them 7 weeks to decide it's not authorised...

Thanks guys! Was going to ask a tutor at college but from what I have read maybe its best popping into a police station :shudders: I am averse to the place tbh but needs must!

Can I ask a stupid question:D If you want to study for an open degree, when you apply do you list all the courses you want to study toward it or just the courses you want to start with?? You've all inspired me to go for it and I don't want to end up studying 20 things at once:eek::D I'm on disability so hopefully will get some financial help aswell.

Hi Bagpuss :hello: It's not a stupid question at all. When you select a course online it will ask you which qualification you would like to link it to, there is an option there for an open degree. You just select the course(s) you want to study now, and add to it as you go along - I think there is a system in place whereby you can only study 120 points a year, so they wouldn't let you sign up for more than that! If you decide later on to go for a specific degree, you can change the qualification you have linked (I've done it a couple of times!).

My sig only contains more courses because I'm doing 120 points this year and I've already signed up for my first course next September, ie the new academic year. I have staggered the courses this year though, one ends in May and one begins in May.

Which course are you thinking about starting with? :)

Thank you Homespun:T I'm thinking of starting with SK195 10 points (Human Genetics) starting Feb 2009 aswell as SK120 15 points (Diabetes Care) starting May 2009 and SK123 15 points (Understanding Cancer) also starting May 2009. I would really love to do DB123 You and your money which also starts May 2009 but am unsure whether 3 courses at once would be too much:confused: Can someone who is doing you and your money advise me on whether it would be possible time and commitment wise:A

    Hi again :)

I haven't started DB123 yet (May 09, too!), but my understanding of courses is that each 30 points amounts to around 8 hours of study each week, so your 15pt courses should be around 4 hours. My MU120 is 30 points but doesn't even come close to 8 hours yet, although looking forward to the stuff I'm studying later in the course it probably will by then!

Looking at the course description for SK195, it can be completed in as little as 8 weeks (end of April finish) so it would be possible that you would only be doing the 2 courses at once.

Thank you so much for you response Homespun I really appreciate it. You really seem to know the OU very well:A I think I may register for You and Your money as well. I'm registered disabled so will have a lot of time on my hands although I have Epstein Barre so the mind may not be as willing as I need it to be:rotfl:
